Hotbuckle explodes onto the stage with this new, innovative adaptation of one of Dickens’ greatest novels. With all the comedy, mystery, violent melodrama, suspense and poignancy of the original, it tells of Pip’s journey from boyhood to manhood as he seeks to discover who he is and find his place in an inhospitable world. It is a story of love and loss, of guilt and shame, of fear and courage and has some of the most vivid and memorable characters in all of English literature. With the bicentenary of Dickens’ birth in 2012, this electrifying, exhilarating and moving production is a must-see. “….these creative, versatile and visionary actors excel, delighting the audience …… this production is a clever and novel re-birth of a famous classic that does not fail to grip you through its contemporary approach.” The Public Reviews

She sings with a conviction and depth of emotion that reflects the inner strength and spirit that has helped her come through the challenges of her own life. Intelligent and articulate, with a keenly developed social conscience, Frances is very politically aware and has strong opinions on many issues. She is renowned for her rendition of “Legal Illegal,” a song by Ewan McColl that powerfully rails against injustice. The extent of Frances’ popularity and talent has been reflected in the awards and accolades that she has received for her albums and live performances. She has twice been the recipient of one of the highest honours in Irish music, the prestigious Irish Recorded Music Association’s Best Irish FemaleAward, and was also delighted to receive a National Entertainment ”Personality of the year” award, as it has always been vitally important to her to connect with her audiences during a performance. This was evident in her participation in the ablum A Women’s Heart, which went on to become the biggest selling album in Ireland. In addition, the excellence of her live performances saw her receiving the “Best Solo Artist” and “Overall Winner” accolades at the Celtic Fusion Festival Awards, in conjunction with Irish Music Magazine, from over 40 nominated acts. Frances’ career in music has been so successful that it posed a dilemma when it came to choosing the 40 tracks for The Essential Frances Black compilation, as there were so many hit singles and songs that audiences loved, to choose from. We hope that this wonderful collection will give hours of enjoyment from the voice of the lady who has captured the hearts of so many people all around the world over the past 20 years. Freddie White has long been synonymous with music of the highest quality. Whether interpreting songs by his favourite writers, such as Randy Newman, Tom Waits, John Hiatt and Guy Clark, or performing his own classy compositions, Freddie’s live performances are nothing short of legendary. Freddie has been part of the fabric of the live music scene since the 1970’s as a founding member of ‘Scullion. Later he formed ‘The Fake’, regarded as one of the seminal Irish bands of the late ‘70’s. Next came The Freddie White Band formed in 1978, which toured with Eric Clapton that year. He has since been touring mainly solo and his albums and concerts continue to sell well, amongst his loyal and newfound fan base. This month will be your only chance to see Freddie live, as he currently lives in Sydney, Australia, come along and hear this legendary voice and listen to his unique guitar style. “…those trademark sharp-toothed guitar licks… smoky, languid voice…there’s still nobody to match White at his best” Irish Times

Dir: Roman Polanski / France / 2011 / 79 mins / 15A Starring: Christoph Waltz, Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly, Kate Winslet Language: English This comic miniature sees Roman Polanski bring his knack for claustrophobic dramas played out in enclosed spaces to French writer yasmina Reza’s play ‘The God of Carnage’, moving the action from bourgeois Paris to middle-class Brooklyn. It’s a captive, caustic exercise in confinement and hysteria as a couple, Nancy (Kate Winslet), a personality-free, high-flying financial type, and Alan (Christoph Waltz), a harried executive, come knocking at the home of Penelope (Jodie Foster), a self-consciously liberal writer, and Michael (John C Reilly), an amiable peddler of ‘flush mechanisms’, to discuss a fight between their kids. Each couple attempts diplomacy, but words become weapons, prejudices rise to the surface and the evening collapses into a storm of anger, vomit, drunkenness and violence. Brief, brutal and barmy.

Dir: Carol Morley / UK / 2011 / 90 mins / Cert: CLUB Language: English Nobody noticed when Joyce Vincent died in her bedsit above a shopping mall in North London in 2003. Her body wasn’t discovered for three years, surrounded by Christmas presents she had been wrapping, and with the TV still on. Director Carol Morley, determined to find out more about Joyce’s life, spent five years tracking down those who knew her by placing adverts in newspapers, on black cabs and on the internet. Interweaving interviews with imagined scenes from Joyce’s life (played brilliantly by exciting new talent Zawe Ashton) Dreams of a Life is an imaginative, powerful, multilayered quest. It is not only a portrait of Joyce, but a portrait of London in the eighties - the City, music and race. It is a film about urban lives, contemporary life and how, like Joyce, we are all different things to different people.

Few jazz groups in recent memory have amassed such popularity and critical acclaim. ON SACRED GROUND sees the piano trio take on Stravinsky’s iconic Rite of Spring. The Fitzrovia Radio Hour’s brand new show tours fresh from three critically acclaimed London residencies, and two sell-out years at the Edinburgh Fringe. Performed with cut-glass theatricality blending homage and satire, Fitzrovia mixes the chauvinist attitudes of 1940s Britain with sharp contemporary humour to produce a heady comic cocktail. Throughout the plays, sound effects are created live: a Bakelite hairdryer imitates a heating torch, a desk fan becomes an aeroplane, and multiple types of cabbage help to stage a fight scene. Azal the Artist weaves these two narratives together as he draws what he sees on the shadow screen. His artistic skills transform the everyday objects into characters that come to life and tell their own story. Cinderella is told by the fairy godmother herself incorporating real magic and puppetry. Following his two previous sell out shows here, we are delighted to see Declan returning to the Riverbank Arts Centre, on the back of his sell-out Mag Pai Zai tour, having recently completed the Transatlantic Sessions UK tour and a month-long tour of the US. Despite having a keen interest in music and singing from an early age, it was during his teenage years spent in Melbourne that he first got hold of a guitar. O’Rourke was exposed to a different cultural aesthetic at this point which, coupled with his own well-formed cultural identity, may account for his unique style of melody and melancholia. Declan recently performed ‘A Little Something,’ and ‘Galileo’ from his debut album, at the BBC Last Night of the Proms with the Ulster Orchestra in Castle Park, Bangor. Dir: Paolo Sorrentino /Italy/France/Ireland / 2011 118 mins / Cert: 15A Starring: Sean Penn, Frances McDormand, Judd Hirsch, Eva Hewson, Kerry Condon Language: English In 2008, Sean Penn, Jury president of Cannes Film Festival, awarded Paolo Sorrentino with the Jury Prize for “Il Divo” and declared he was eager to make a movie with Sorrentino. Three years later, Penn and Sorrentino returned to Cannes together to win the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury in Cannes this year for “This Must Be the Place” - a moral road movie. The film invokes Wim Wenders’ “Paris Texas” through its melancholy travels and gorgeous cinematography. The score is composed by David Byrne (of The Talking Heads, whose song is the film’s namesake) and accompanies the former idol’s journey. “This Must Be the Place” explores affiliations and cliches through the moving portrait of a sardonic fifty-year-old ex rock star who will never settle for the lifestyle of mediocrity with which the world tries to constrain him.
