1st Edition

March 2009

Welcome to the 1st edition of “The Word”, a Skills for Life magazine produced half termly to keep you informed of what is happening around the college. In future editions we hope to include student views and experiences.

Brush Up Your English Classes go on a visit! Three BUYE (Brush Up Your English) classes have arranged with Alex Richardson, their course tutor, to go on a visit to Manchester Museum on Wednesday 23rd April and Liverpool World Museum on Thursday 24th April.

They will be taking photos of their visit, including a mystery stowaway, which will be added to the display board.

They have been researching information about the museums’ artefacts which are on display. Some of their findings and written articles are on the display board along the corridor of C Floor near the Skills For Life staffroom. The students hope that the trip will give them the chance to see the objects close up and discover even more information about the topic area they have chosen to research.

Come and see what you are missing! Who said, “English classes are boring!”

Well done and thank you to all staff and students who took part in this years Comic Relief fun. Skills for Life held a quiz with a literary theme. The winners are Alex Brown (ICT BND YR2), Liam Wiggins and Tom—Ben Shoah (BND PUBLIC SERVICES), and they received vouchers.

Special mention goes to Kath Redmond who joined her link area, Construction and Engineering, in their fundraising events. She spent the day in stocks having wet sponges thrown at her.

Skills for Life staff teamed up with their link areas to join in the fun. Below are some pictures taken on the day. Business and ICT held a 5-a-side football tournament with over 60 students and staff turning up to take part. The eventual winners came from Business BTEC 1st.

Winning team - Mike Hindley (Man of the Tournament), Paul Smith, Daniel Hanlon, Sam Littler and Daniel Baker
