Whiteface Mountain, in Wilmington, New York, is a ski resort that checks off just about every box for skiers and riders. It’s home to the greatest vertical in the east and offers more of everything. More snowmaking, 22 miles of impeccably groomed trails and 53 acres of unmatched glade skiing. Simply put, there’s something for everyone. But let’s be real for a moment. How many of us really “hit” the slopes for an all-out, leg burning, day of skiing and snowboarding? And how many of us go out for a few runs and then afterwards try to discover the best après ski spot? I’m of the latter. Recently, I went out with some friends for an afternoon of skiing at Whiteface and it wasn’t long afterwards that we made our way to the base lodge’s second floor where we discovered the redesigned Cloudspin Bar & Grill. A perfect place to kick back for an after skiing drink, food and fun.

ENTERTAINMENT When walking in, right away you’ll feel the bar & grill’s energy. Plan for live music Saturday’s and there’s always music rockin’ in the background, while people surround the bar or sit at their table, engaged in conversation, relishing the libations after a fun day of skiing or snowboarding the Olympic mountain. The massive windows allow for a great view of people still on the slopes, while the outdoor deck is the perfect spot to catch a few more rays to even out that goggle tan you got while making turns.

The atmosphere is extremely welcoming and we found plenty of fellow après-skiers laughing and having a good time. We only knew one person when we arrived, but after taking off our coats and ordering a pair of specialty cocktails, soon we were chatting it up, hanging-out and enjoying ourselves with a group of locals, visitors and new friends. MIX-OLOGY The bartenders undeniably love their job, they’re enthusiastic, always smiling, energetic and fun, plus they know how to concoct the perfect after skiing drink. Daily drink specials are posted on a board near the bar, so be sure to check it when you venture in. There are several different draft beers and mixed drinks to choose from, but the signature cocktail is their Bloody Mary, made with peppered vodka, instead of basic vodka. It warms you up after a cold day on the mountain.

CATCH A RIDE After having fun, sharing stories and tales, with food and drink, take the free shuttle back to home or to your hotel. Yes, a free, safe ride is available to and from the mountain to both Wilmington and Lake Placid. Allow yourself some extra time when taking the shuttle and maybe take a moment to familiarize yourself with the route.
