A LEGACY
UNVEILED

With gasps from family and friends and tears in their eyes, Barbara & Errol Bisso ’61 watched as a lasting tribute in their honor was unveiled at Homecoming 2021 with nearly 300 alumni in attendance to celebrate their lifetime achievements. This alumni-led initiative has already raised more than $168,000 to fund the commemorative display, upgraded finishes, technology, and comfortable furnishings in the new welcome center located at the west portal.
The Bisso Legacy tells the story of Coach and Mama Bisso, as they are fondly referred to by many RMA alumni. They have lived, served, and remained dedicated to RMA for more than 55 years. Pouring themselves into the Academy and the young men who attended during their tenure has been their life’s work. Their legacy includes not only their son Richard, daughter Maria, and Errol’s brother Gary, but also their extended RMA family encompassing hundreds of young men whom they have coached, mentored, and loved through the years.
Earlier this year, Coach Bisso announced his retirement effective May 31, 2022. Just as they spent their early days living in the barracks with the cadets, the Bisso tribute is located within the barracks, in the new welcome center, where their story and legacy will continue to touch the lives of many for years to come. The initial goal to raise $100,000 for this project has been exceeded, and now the alumni committee is focused on the ultimate goal of raising $300,000 for the naming rights for the entire welcome center. To be a part of this meaningful tribute, contact any member of the alumni project committee or Ellen DeFoor, Vice President for Advancement at edefoor@riversidemilitary.com or 770-538-2924.
“Coach Bisso instilled hard work, dedication, and values in me and countless others that have helped shape our lives. Their love for all of us has inspired the Bisso Legacy that we trust will live on through the welcome center.”
