Welcome From the President Dear Riverside Military Academy Community, “The Boys in the Boat,” a nonfiction work about the 1936 U.S. Olympic rowing team, chronicles the importance of selfless teamwork. The rowing team’s unexpected gold medal victory in front of Hitler, in Nazi Germany, narrates stories of leadership, sacrifice, and trust. It remains one of my favorite books. Rowing is a unique sport because each athlete must contribute their utmost vigor in perfect synchronization with his teammates. It is mentally exacting and physically demanding - one erroneous dip of the paddle can ruin a race. I know, because I have participated in rowing as an athlete and as a coach. In fact, it is what first brought me to Riverside Military Academy.
Their story reveals how the highest levels of achievement are attained when groups come together to accomplish a common goal.
In the spring of 2001, I was a professor and rowing coach at the U.S. Military Academy-West Point. The following winter, the Hudson River froze over leaving the team unable to practice. Looking for an alternative location to practice, I found Riverside Military Academy (RMA) and its location near the 1996 Olympics rowing venue. During spring break that year, the team and I spent the week practicing on Lake Sidney Lanier and residing in the newly built RMA barracks. I was completely impressed by the cadets, the staff & faculty, and the facilities. Little did I know, I would one day return as President of this remarkable institution. The author of “The Boys in the Boat” met with Joe Rantz, a member of the 1936 team, as he lay on his deathbed. The author asked for permission to tell Joe’s story. Joe replied in effect, “…don’t write about me, rather, write about the boys in the boat.” Think about that. Decades after the victory, he stated, essentially, that it was not about him – it’s about the team as a whole. Successful rowing teams, otherwise known as crews, trust and rely upon one another completely. Only when they are dependent on each other, do they become one and excel. As the 10th president of RMA, I am privileged to join a talented and energetic team of professionals who lead, teach, and administer this academy. As we work together, we will execute the mission, graduate tremendous cadets, and continue to distance ourselves from all other academies by demonstrating a “one-team” approach toward achieving excellence. I ask that you join us in this mission by becoming more involved with RMA.
Colonel(R) Stanley C. “Staś” Preczewski, U.S.A., Ph.D. President

CHANGE OF COMMAND CEREMONY
RMA Welcomes Tenth President PRESIDENTIAL DUTIES PASSED ceremonially to Riverside Military Academy’s (RMA) new President, Colonel(R) Stanley C. “Staś” Preczewski, U.S.A., Ph.D., in a Change of Command Ceremony on Maginnis Field, Friday, March 29, 2019. The ceremony coincided with the annual Spring Parents’ Day, though COL Preczewski officially assumed the Presidency on March 1, 2019.
A Change of Command Ceremony is a military tradition representing a transfer of authority from one commanding officer to another. The stands were filled with parents, guests, alumni, and friends who joined the 530 cadets aligned in parade formation to welcome the new President. Chairman of the RMA Board of Trustees, Rutledge A. "Rusty" Griffin Jr., ’62, received the Riverside Military Academy flag from Lieutenant Colonel(R), James G. Spivey, U.S.A., Interim President. Griffin then passed the colors to COL Preczewski symbolically indicating the transfer of Presidential responsibilities. “It has been an educational and professional development opportunity to have served the Academy as Interim President,” said LTC Spivey. “I would like to commend the faculty and staff and thank them for their role in making this school the best all-boys college preparatory, military academy in the United States.” COL Preczewski said, "I thank you, LTC Spivey, for relinquishing the command in great standing due to your superb leadership.” LTC Spivey served as Interim President for ten months. When speaking to COL Preczewski's assumption of the role of President, Griffin said, "COL Preczewski has a solid military and academic background having served as CFO and a professor of the U.S. Military Academy - West Point. He is a world-class leader with a passion for RMA. He is the right man to lead RMA onto greater things."
Education from the University of Missouri – Columbia. While serving as a professor at the U.S. Military Academy – West Point, he was selected as an American Council on Education Fellow at Wake Forest University. His military awards and decorations include two Legion of Merit Awards, four Meritorious Service Medals, and Air Assault and Airborne badges. He retired at the rank of Colonel after serving more than twenty-six years on active duty. COL Preczewski retired from Georgia Gwinnett College where he served for 12 years, first as Inaugural Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, Interim President, and then President beginning in 2014. COL Preczewski’s remaining remarks focused on the Corps, parents, families, and friends who personally sacrifice their “time, talent, and treasure as an investment in their cadet.” In closing, he declared, “the cadets standing tall before you today are the sole reason this Academy exists.”
COL Preczewski is no stranger to Riverside Military Academy. Upon being named President, he resigned from the RMA Board of Trustees, where he served for three years. He earned his B.S. in Engineering from Cornell University, and his commission in the United States Army in 1980. He holds an M.S. in Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, an M.A. in National Security Strategy and Planning from the United States Naval War College, and a Ph.D. in Higher SPRING 2019

ATHLETIC ACCOLADES
Athletic Accolades
Forever Strong RMA Raiders Claim State and National Championships In the Raider National Championship Tournament the A-Team took home first place in all events for the fifth consecutive year. RMA Raiders also won their third consecutive state championship at Spalding County High School in Griffin, GA. The B-Team competed against other A-teams and placed third in five events, and first overall in the 2018 All-Service Raider Challenge Championships. The tournament consisted of over one hundred schools nationwide. The boys, both present and past, have formed a brotherhood that will never be forgotten. Hours of blood, sweat, and tears solidified their commitment to one another. Not only is this seen on the field, but it is also observed in their day-to-day interactions with one another at the Academy. Every summer during Raider camp, Raider alumni come to train the rising Raiders and emphasize the importance of brotherhood and camaraderie in order to obtain success.
2019 RMA Basketball Team Reaches Elite 8 The 2019 RMA Eagle Basketball Team obtained a winning record and made it to the third round of the Georgia High School Association State Playoffs. During the GHSA playoffs third round, RMA was the #2 team in the state. The Eagles were led by an experienced and devoted cast of seniors who stepped up to the challenge in big-time games. They accomplished a feat never been done before at RMA, a chance to compete in the GHSA Elite 8 game!
The role of the underclassmen was exceptional all season, especially during the playoffs. The future looks bright for RMA basketball. 6

CADET ACTIVITIES 2018 RMA Track Team Claims RMA's 1st Georgia High School Association State Championship The 2018 Track Team made RMA athletic history by winning the school’s first GHSA State Championship. RMA won the “Triple Crown” of high school track by winning the Hall County Championship and the Region 8 Championship for the 2nd year in a row. The Eagles were led by Individual State Champions Isaac Teasley in the 400, James Seymour in the 800, Khalid Duke in the Triple Jump, and the Mile Relay Team of Charles Dimnwaobi, Demilade Lasisi, James Seymour, and Isaac Teasley.
Our athletes were unbelievable and represented RMA with excellence. They worked unselfishly as true Brothers in Blue.
Cadet Activities CADET ACTIVITIES ARE a crucial part in making the transition for the cadets from your home to their RMA home easier. Participating in Cadet Activities has made a difference for many cadets who are homesick, want to get involved in a new hobby, or continue on with a hobby they already enjoy. Our Activities Program plays an integral role in providing experiences where the boys can enjoy themselves and establish lifelong relationships that will travel with them long after they graduate from RMA.
In addition to off-campus trips, we offer a plethora of on-campus activities. The boys engage in intramural sports, the "Commandant’s Cup," and a sports series against the RMA staff and faculty in the exciting “President’s Cup.” This year we have gone hiking, canoeing, and go-cart racing. The cadets have attended Atlanta United soccer matches, Atlanta Hawks basketball games, and countless field trips. The boys have traveled to the Mall of Georgia and enjoyed many new movies when they hit theaters.

THEY SHOULD TEACH THAT IN SCHOOL
They Should Teach That in School LET'S START WITH a short quiz: 1. If the invitation says “Black Tie Optional,” what’s a man supposed to wear? 2. What are the six car fluids you should be checking under the hood? 3. Which course would you eat with the spoon placed above your plate? 4. What’s a standard tip for valet service?
between the societal demands and the know-how of everyday adult life. You can call it ‘practical skills,’ ‘life skills,’ or even 'adulting,' but by any name, the ability to dress, act, speak, and think competently and professionally is more in demand than ever. Since last fall, RMA’s Studies in Personal Leadership (SPL) class has been meeting that demand; preparing RMA graduates with the skills and confidence for the necessities of adult life.
5. How do you tie a bowline? If you’re like me, you’ve heard the statement they should teach that in school, often. I’m not sure if our culture is losing touch with the know-how of our grandfathers, or if common sense has never been all that common, but as hands-on classes like Shop and Home Ec. have dropped from the curriculum, and digital saturation keeps more people on their phones than in their garages, our society is starting to recognize the gap 8
REVEILLE The Official Publication of Riverside Military Academy
It all starts with the tie. Four-in-hand, half-Windsor, full Windsor? Check. Bow tie? Dimple? Check. With that simple marker of adulthood under our belts, we work through a semester-long obstacle course of hands-on scenarios that cadets are likely to encounter as they move into the real world.
In five short months, SPL students learn to change a tire, cook a steak, balance a budget, sew a button, dress professionally, tip appropriately, use a toolkit, hike a trail, read a lease, negotiate a deal, and treat a lady with respect.
THEY SHOULD TEACH THAT IN SCHOOL
This year, you may have seen the smart blue-and-gray-striped RMA ties—you might even own one. These were designed and commissioned by the class as a lesson in business and entrepreneurship, and cadets continue to market them as a fundraiser. The class also offers a preview of college life, including a look at the bewildering variety of courses offered and how to schedule a healthy school-work-social balance. Will every cadet use every skill he learns in class? Probably not. But if one of our graduates can confidently interpret a place setting for an eleven-course banquet, you can bet he’ll be the toast of the table at a four-course business dinner. And while a given cadet may not find himself needing to build a stud wall, the confidence he gains from carpentry will translate to every other problem he encounters. The course owes its success to a broad range of patrons. The school administration and faculty have been tremendously supportive of the program. With their encouragement, the class has grown from seven to nearly twenty students per semester. Generous
donors have supplied us with a complete toolkit and cooking materials, and a Practical Skills Lab is under construction above the library, including a full kitchen and home repair practice room.
find teaching this class, and how enthusiastic I am to see it continue to grow and improve. If you’re on campus, I hope you find the time to stop by and watch the cadets at work. Maybe you’ll learn something.
We’re also lucky to partner with the local community to bring in diverse guest speakers, including the Gainesville Police Department (how to behave during a traffic stop), Christopher’s Tuxedo & Bridal (men’s style), experts on personal finance, vehicle repair, and how to identify proper marbling in a steak. The most important partners in the course, however, are the cadets themselves. When asked about the impact of the class, one junior wrote, “I know how to prepare a decent meal, balance my budget, change my tire, and style myself for work.”
Next time you hear someone say “they should teach that in school,” tell them we do, right here at RMA.
Another cadet with an interest in international business reported, “One thing I found insanely useful was talking about budget managing. Just discussing what all this ‘grown-up talk’ gave me a new point of view on insurance, credit, debit, and financial sustainability.” I can’t express how encouraging I

TRANSITION AND TRANSFORMATION
Transition and Transformation THE FIRST STEPS I took onto Riverside Military Academy's campus—much like the ones all cadets take as a young man— were in 1996 as a recent college graduate. Fresh, naïve, and ready for any challenge, I walked into Lanier Hall intrigued by the history and traditions of an all-boy, military boarding school. I was even more curious how a young man or boy would transform into a cadet and a man of character exemplifying the corps values of duty, honor, and service to country through a sound mind and a sound body. Was it possible to take a young teenage male and instill in him the values of a soldier, a sailor, an airman, a marine, a coastie, a husband, a father, a friend? Was it possible to foster leadership qualities in a young man to lead his peers? Is leadership possible at this stage in their development? Ten months later in the spring of 1997, I witnessed the completed transformation as trumpets played from above the darkened quadrangle, and a solemn silence fell over the crowd as the flag crept down the flagpole into the dutiful hands of cadets ready to protect and improve our nation. I saw young men completing a journey that did in fact answer all my questions. I saw a bond formed in the daily work set before the corps. I saw a mission completed not by adults, but by students. I saw one of life’s greatest passages for a young man: the permanent transformation from follower to leader and the burden it carries. Most importantly, the internal strength it builds. I saw the strength and power of boys 10

becoming leaders amongst their peers. Twenty-three years later, I still find myself witnessing and assisting in this transformation. As an English teacher for 18 years, and now the Academy’s College Counselor for the last four years, it is an honor and privilege to witness this rite of passage. It is undeniable. Our cadets transform into men, husbands, fathers, leaders, soldiers, and protectors of others. While every class claims greatness in their achievements, this year’s group of seniors is by far no exception to the rule of excellence. With over $3.7 million in athletic scholarships alone, the Senior Class of 2019 set a new record of $7 million in merit-based scholarships! Our cadets continue to amaze us with their feats of athleticism, academic prowess, and selfless service to others.
Mr. Ed Benson is a RMA College Counselor and Service Academy Preparatory Program Director.
CADET EXCHANGE PROGRAM
Cadet Exchange Program WE ARE EXCITED to announce that Riverside Military Academy (RMA) and the Royal Hospital School (RHS) have agreed to a second Summer Cadet Exchange Fellowship (SCEF) Program this upcoming summer. The SCEF Program is designed to provide high-performing cadets with an immersive experience that fosters international understanding, goodwill, and friendship with like-minded young people.
The four cadets chosen to represent Riverside Military Academy in the Summer Cadet Exchange Fellowship this year are:
The Riverside Military Academy Cadets chosen will get an unparalleled experience in one of the oldest and best military boarding schools in the world. RHS is located within an hour of London on the east coast of England. Among many other notable events, RMA Cadets will participate in academics, large-scale field training exercises, sailing, cultural trips, marksmanship training, survival skills development, and military parades.
We also selected two alternates to fill in if one of the aforementioned cannot make the exchange:
To be considered for this prestigious exchange, cadets must have a combination of academic excellence, athletic persistance, and must pocess strong leadership skills. Along with these qualities, applicants were required to submit formal letters of consideration and submit themselves to the scrutiny of the selection process.

SERVICE ACADEMY PREPARATORY PROGRAM
Service Academy Preparatory Program WE LOOK FOR distinguished cadets who wish to continue their service and leadership to others. With RMA’s proven academics, long-standing leadership training program, and athletic programs, our challenging environment develops mental acuity, empathy, and understanding for others, ethical character, and moral integrity. It is by no coincidence that service academies recognize our extraordinary cadets. The Service Academy Preparation Program allows our boys to harness opportunities at RMA, while under the care of dedicated faculty, staff, coaches, and counselors who understand their goals.
The admissions process to the five U.S. Service Academies - U.S. Military Academy (USMA), U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) – test these attributes throughout the 12-14 month process.
The application process to a service academy is rigorous and SAPP is designed to help cadets and their families through the process. Applicants begin by completing a pre-candidate questionnaire, followed by months of preparing themselves physically identifying areas of strength, and improving their areas of weakness. Applicants must be physically fit and determined to strengthen weaknesses. By the summer of their junior year, they are immersed in summer camps geared toward experiencing academy life and living the model of service for others. During the fall of their senior year, they complete and submit their congressional and senatorial packets for nominations. They also request teachers and coaches for letters of support. Character and determination with an unyielding spirit is necessary to sustain and complete this application process.

Our cadets thrive under these conditions as every day is oriented around giving their best. These cadets are special to the academy, as they represent a continuing tradition of dedication to better themselves, their country, and their school.
Letter from the Chairman of the Board Dear Friends of Riverside Military Academy, Did you know that Riverside Military Academy (RMA) has an International reputation for being the best military academy of its kind in the United States and perhaps even the world? Since 1907, our fine institution has been transforming young boys into men of character poised for success in higher education and beyond. Over 50 years ago, I too arrived at RMA. My years at RMA gave me the opportunity to learn leadership skills I needed. I was taught and encouraged to advance academically and why it is so important. My time as a cadet taught me that there are consequences to poor choices, but with self-discipline and accepting responsibility, I could achieve success. Today, RMA faculty, staff, and TACs are still dedicated to leading and encouraging young cadets into their own success stories. As Chairman of the Board, I think I can speak for all board members, when I say that I believe this is one of the most exciting times to be at RMA. Paramount in that reasoning is our new President, Colonel(R) Stanley C. "Staś" Preczewski, U.S.A., Ph.D. Previously, he was the President of Georgia Gwinnett College with academic credentials beyond what you can imagine.
RMA's dedicated faculty, staff, mentors, and coaches are intentional about our young cadets becoming leaders of tomorrow and reaching their full potential in life.
Before closing, let me, on behalf of the Board of Trustees, thank Lieutenant Colonel(R) James G. Spivey, U.S.A., for stepping up as Interim President during our search for a new President. LTC Spivey and his entire staff and faculty have done an outstanding job of leading RMA during this time of transition. When we asked him to be Interim President, he said that he did not want to just be a “caretaker” President but someone who moved RMA forward and advanced its mission. He and his team have done just that! Good things are happening at RMA and the best is yet to come.

NAMINGS
Recent Namings The Mac and Sue McLendon Student Success Center
The Mary Virginia Bullard Endowed Scholarship Fund
Committed to Riverside Military Academy's mission of developing young men for success, Sue and Mac McLendon, Class of 1958, continue to make an impact in student life and the educational experience for RMA cadets, through generous support of programs and the W.L. “Mac” and Lorna S. McLendon Endowed Scholarship established in 2014. In October of 2017, the RMA Student Success Center was officially unveiled as The Mac and Sue McLendon Student Success Center. “The MAC Center," as it is fondly referred to by cadets, is designed to meet the individual needs of cadets providing academic, organizational, and motivational support for cadets who need additional learning support. According to the Director of the MAC Center, Dr. Jane Adams, “the implementation of the MAC Center has afforded many cadets the opportunity to increase their academic success at RMA. The relationship between the learning support staff and the cadets who access the MAC is not only key to these cadets’ ultimate success at RMA, but also to their future success after high school.”
Established in 2017, the Mary Virginia Bullard Endowed Scholarship Fund provides tuition assistance to a rising senior with demonstrated financial need, who also “needs the opportunity to believe in himself.” This fund was established by J. Jette Campbell, '65, in honor of his beloved grandmother.
RMA Endowed Maintenance Fund Preserving the beauty of Riverside Military Academy’s campus requires a steady source of investing in our facilities. Leading the way, Roslyn and Patrick Henry Higdon, Jr., Class of 1957, established the RMA Endowed Maintenance Fund. Through their gift, Mr. Higdon hopes that others will also make contributions to the fund so that it will grow and provide a continual source of funding for campus improvements, ensuring that RMA’s facilities continue to rival that of a small college and attract families from all over the world.
Naming opportunities provide a way to honor those who made a RMA education possible, to memorialize the career of a treasured RMA teacher or staff member, or to create a lasting legacy for the difference RMA has made in your life or for your family. By naming a scholarship, room, building, quad, or outdoor space, a donor links a loved one or himself to RMA in a permanent, meaningful way. All gifts that secure naming opportunities further RMA’s mission, provide direct benefits to cadets, faculty, and staff, and provide ongoing maintenance to preserve RMA's beautiful campus.

Wuzhen Bi Chinese Classroom Dedication A special ceremony was held in April of 2018 when teacher Sandra Lin’s Chinese classroom was officially named the Wuzhen Bi Chinese Classroom in honor of Mr. Bi’s recent gift. His gift helped to upgrade and expand technology in the classrooms and throughout campus, creating the opportunity for every student to have a Chromebook. Mr. Bi’s son, Cadet Jiahui “Peter” Bi and Tom Huo, close friend of the Bi family, were in attendance as Mr. Bi’s generosity was recognized. Cadet 2LT John Paull, ’19, who has been studying Chinese under Ms. Lin’s instruction, commented, “I have enjoyed studying Chinese for three years. We are thankful for Mr. Bi’s generosity as it has helped to provide technology and wi-fi access across campus. Because this technology is available, Google Classroom has been integrated into the Chinese Program. Also, this allows us to read and write more of the Chinese language which has dramatically increased our learning."

Letter from the Vice President of Advancement Dear Friends of Riverside Military Academy, For more than 112 years, Riverside Military Academy (RMA) has been transforming lives. I was drawn to RMA because of the difference the academy is making in the lives of young men – developing the next generation of leaders at a critical time when our society is lacking leaders with character, discipline, and leadership skills that embody the very success that our country was built upon. Through the generous support of caring parents and grandparents, loyal and grateful alumni, dedicated faculty and staff, as well as friends throughout the community, volunteerism and philanthropy further the academy’s mission by creating a margin of excellence and an exceptional experience for our cadets. All gifts, regardless of the amount, are valued and appreciated.
Your stories are powerful testimonies of RMA's impact and the difference that it makes in the lives of young men and their families.
As you read these pages, please note on page 22 the impact of your support for academic year 2018. Also, see the names of those who played a role in the annual fund, including gifts to benefit academics, athletics, military, and cadet life, as well as those who supported tuition assistance, providing the financial means to several families whose sons want to attend and gain a competitive edge over their peers at other schools. Whether through the Entrepreneurial Leadership Program, named endowed and non-endowed scholarships, and the Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program, funding for tuition assistance is one of the academy’s greatest needs. These and many other initiatives have a real impact on our ability to provide a unique, college preparatory educational experience for our cadets. Thank you for generously supporting the academy with your time, talent and treasure! Your collective efforts help to create excellence in our programs and help to shape the future of our cadets, who are tomorrow’s leaders. Let’s continue to build upon the groundwork and success that has been established, and together, advance the academy’s mission forward for these young men. With heartfelt appreciation,
Ellen G. DeFoor, CFRE Vice President for Advancement

HOMECOMING
Homecoming HOMECOMING WEEKEND 2018 at Riverside Military Academy was an event for all. The event served as a great time for current parents and alumni to come together and celebrate the success of the school, past and present. A record 174 alumni were present, along with 300 guests. Before the football game began on Friday night, Alumni Council Chairman, Ron Fenner, ’66, who had completed his three-year term, passed the guidon to John B. McKernan II, ’88, handing its responsibilities to the newly elected chairman. During half time of the game, two Riverside Military Academy sports legends were inducted into the RMA Hall of Fame: Ernest J. “Jack” Curtis (posthumous), and James O. “Jim” Horn, ’64, were presented with the honor at the 50-yard line of Maginnis Field. Saturday held an alumni lunch barb-cue, courtesy of Ryan Honey, '96, served at the RMA Family Park Pavilion.
After lunch, the Corps of Cadets Parade was conducted, honoring 2018 Distinguished Alumnus Gregory F. "Greg" Werd, ’56, and RMA’s Academic Dean, Colonel Robert "Bob" Cagle, USMC (Ret), for his thirty years of outstanding military service. Cadets enjoyed an evening dance, while alumni and parents participated in an eventful casino night with both live and silent auctions. Riverside Military Academy's 2018 Homecoming weekend raised $13,000 in sponsorship dollars. Pictured are Lieutenant Colonel Alex Pee, from Watkinsville, GA, and Miss Katherine Edwards, from Gainesville, GA. Thank you to our 2018 sponsors: Jorge Alonso, ’68 Scott Baker Ruben A. ALUMNI HOMECOMING COUNCIL
Hail and Farewell RIVERSIDE MILITARY ACADEMY Alumni Council welcomed new Chairman John B. McKernan II, '88, at Homecoming 2018.
I must say thank you to my predecessor, Ron Fenner, who gave us tireless dedication and paved the way to where we are now. Who Am I? Husband, father, friend, mentor, Alumni Council Chairman, and Founding Broker of Two Brown Dogs Realty. The Goal: Increase alumni pride and passion for being involved whether you graduated 50 years ago or last May. How Can I Help? That is what we will figure out. The question I have heard most often since assuming the role of Alumni Council Chairman is, "John, how do I/we get involved?" Honestly, it surprised me. The simple answer is to turn onto Riverside Drive and come home. It sounds silly, but it really is that simple.
haven't you done it already?" I do not know your answer, but I can tell you mine. I have chosen to be consistently and ardently involved over the past seven years, and plan to be involved going forward. I would not have the life I have today without the tools that I left RMA with and walking back is the only way to say thank you in a meaningful way. The longer answer involves ensuring that current and future cadets walk away knowing, feeling, and believing in the strength of the brotherhood that they too have earned. Boys, our brotherhood is powerful and our enduring connections are unbreakable. If you haven't heard from me or someone on the Alumni Council, let us know. We will figure it out. Together. It starts with a conversation. It is time to come home and plug-in where your heart and experience leads you. When you see Ron, be sure to thank him for his service as Alumni Council Chairman, from 2016-2018.
For more information contact the Alumni Office at 770.538.2924 or alumni@riversidemilitary.com.
The longer answer, while not quite as simple, and one that I really cannot answer for you is, "if you are asking, why 18

SPORTS HALL OF FAME
RMA SPORTS HALL OF FAME COL Ernest J. “Jack” Curtis | Athletic Director from 1930 – 1969 | Deceased COL CURTIS, AS he was known to all, came to RMA in 1928 from The Blackstone Military School in Virginia where he was a teacher and Athletic Director. General Beaver knew how important it was to fill RMA with the highest quality people to help run his school. COL Curtis taught Latin and History when he arrived. He went on to serve four decades as Riverside Military Academy’s Athletic Director. During his tenure as the RMA Athletic Director, we had one of the strongest private school athletic programs in the southeastern United States. COL Curtis and his family lived at RMA in what became known as the Curtis House. His son, Ernest J. “Bucky” Curtis, ‘47, is a charter member of the RMA Sports Hall of Fame. COL Curtis has had two athletic gymnasium buildings named in his honor. The first Curtis Hall was dedicated in 1966, and the new Curtis Hall was dedicated in 2002.

The Georgia state government has recognized the incredible popularity and value of this program, and responded by almost doubling the cap. There is now $100 million in available tax credits per year for the next decade. This means that instead of being approved for only about half of the amount taxpayers wish to contribute, they will now be approved for close to the full amount. If you are a Georgia resident and interested in participating in this program, please contact Jody Wilson at 770.532.6251 ext. 2212 or jwilson@riversidemilitary.com. SPRING 2019
