Fulop Administration Launches First Free Public Bike Storage Network at Transit Hubs for Greater Expansion of Jersey City’s Increasingly Robust Transportation Infrastructure Mayor Steven M. Fulop and the Department of Infrastructure announced today the activation of free 24/7 secure public bike storage as part of the Fulop Administration’s extensive mobility efforts to provide greener options for commuting and reducing vehicular traffic with locations strategically placed around Jersey City’s busiest transportation hubs. At no cost to Jersey City,

secure storage is being offered free to all users, including bicycles and micromobility vehicles, through Oonee. The first two locations will be activated this week at the Danforth Avenue Light Rail Station and McGinley Square. Since becoming the first in New Jersey to adopt Vision Zero in 2017, more than 20 miles of protected bike lanes have been built with connections spanning the City to promote safe mobility options. Coupled with the recent expansion of CitiBike stations and electricpowered devices, Jersey City is experiencing a surge in bicycle use and other alternative modes

of transportation — one of the most proven effective ways of reducing a city’s carbon footprint, enhancing safety of all users, improving health outcomes, and promoting equity through transportation.

“Launching this citywide network of secure bike storage puts Jersey City at the forefront once again in advancing sustainability and transportation goals utilizing innovative approaches and publicprivate partnerships,” said Mayor Fulop. “Earlier this month, we celebrated the reopening of our only ferry service outside of downtown with discounted fares and free Via rides to and from the terminal, focusing on expanding connectivity for our low- and middle-income residents. This

partnership with Oonee is our latest initiative as part of our holistic approach to meeting the community’s comprehensive mobility needs.”

The City’s system is provided by Oonee, a Brooklyn-based company that focuses on building high-quality streetscape infrastructure and services. The initial phase of the system will include secure parking for over 80 devices accessible at the following locations:

·McGinley Square

·Exchange Place

·Washington & Montgomery Streets

·Danforth Avenue Light Rail Station

·Grove Street PATH Station

·Newport PATH Station

work by Jersey Citybased steel artist Robert Koch in the Art House Gallery, August 5 - August 27, 2023. At this exhibit, Koch will present a variety of steel sculptures as well as mixed-media paintings. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, August 5, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Regular gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Attendees

can also request an appointment by contacting Gallery Director, Andrea McKenna at gallery@ arthouseproductions.org

“Robert’s work is a testament to his dedication as an artist. His beautiful tower-like creations are astonishing, as are his smaller pieces. He works the steel as if it were clay, molding and shaping it into forms that are unlike objects that would come from this rigid material. He is truly a master at his craft,” says Gallery Director, Andrea McKenna.

Also on August 5, in collaboration with Jersey City Pride, Art House will present the screening of “Strength through Visibility: 20 Years of Pride in Jersey City’’ in the Art House Theater from 3pm - 4:30pm. A panel discussion with the filmmakers will follow the screening. This documentary chronicles Jersey City Pride’s history, providing a roadmap for people around the world who want to start Pride events in areas with little to no support. “Strength Through Visibility: 20 Years of Pride in Jersey City’’ is the winner of the 2023 Garden State Film Festival Homegrown Documentary award. The screening will be free of charge, but interested attendees must RSVP.

All works will be for sale in the Art House Gallery at The Hendrix at 345 Marin Boulevard, Jersey City, NJ 07302. Art House Gallery exhibitions are always free

and open to the public. Large print for all literature regarding our exhibitions and tactile and descriptive tours are available upon request. Email Andrea McKenna for more information at gallery@arthouseproductions.org .

ABOUT ROBERT KOCH

Growing up in Pennsylvania, Robert Koch became interested in art at an early age. Hisgrandparents’ home was one block away from the studio of Henry Bertoia, and he marveledat the unique and grand bronze sculptures as they were created outside the studio. He attended Kutztown University where he studied art education. His first and ultimatelysuccessful venture as an artist began in 1986 in the kitchen of longtime friends Karen andBob, who donated their space to allow Robert’s creative side to take flight. Over the courseof nearly 20 years, Robert created functional stoneware pottery and traveled the east coastselling work at art festivals. Though he won awards and built a loyal following both locally and regionally, the memories of Bertoia’s work compelled him toward a new path.

Today, Robert resides at 150 Bay Street in Jersey City, NJ, with his dog, Ivy. His studio is located on the 2nd floor with the entrance at 157 A.

GOO GOO DOLLS The Big Night Out Tour AUG. 12, PNC BANK ARTS CENTER

Kicking off with a ringing, driving guitar, the recent single “Yeah, I Like You” revs up scrappy rock ‘n’ roll, skewering meaningless internet and social media celebrity culture with its big choruses and pop hooks.

Welcome to the Goo Goo Dolls in the second decade of the 21st century.

“That song’s a lot of fun,” said singer/songwriter/guitarist John Rzeznik in a recent phone interview. “What I love about that song is it really is a satirical kind of commentary on fame in the year 2022. I’m sitting around going ‘Who are these people? What are they famous for?’ You used to have to do something to be famous...some of it is my age and some of it is the absurdity of social media. There’s a girl eating noodles. I eat noodles, why aren’t I famous? Everything is so weirdly random”

The long-running alt rock band’s 13th album,

WEEKENDS VISIT US AT STEPHEN GREGG PARK BAYONNE

T-BARK FOODS & More

“Chaos in Bloom,” marks the first time Rzeznik has produced one of the band’s albums. He aimed to bring together vintage and contemporary sounds –and to capture the Goo Goo Dolls at their best.

“I wanted the album to have more of a live feel to it,” Rzeznik said. “A couple songs, I used drum machines and synthesizers. That’s a different kind of process. For the rock songs, it was live. The live versions of the songs, to me, always came across better than the studio versions.

Rzeznik did all the production, up to a point. Then he brought in Gregg Wattenberg to help finish the record.

“I felt like I couldn’t take these songs any further,” he said. “I

stepped up in front of the mic and I was going to produce my own vocals. Then I went ‘I don’t know how to do this.’’

Now Rzeznik, bassist Robby Takac and the rest of the band have to the road this summer for headlining shows this fall that will likely include “Yeah, I Like You,” but mostly will be made up of earlier hits and fan favorites such as “Iris,” “Name,” “Slide,” “Give a Little Bit” “Better Days” and “Broadway.”

“We have such a large body of work behind us,” Rzeznik said. “You have to play a lot of those songs for people. I love doing that. I like entertaining people. I really do.”
