says festival founder Dan Frigolette. “We have seen comedians work their way from our new talent contest all the way to landing key roles on hit television shows. The whole experience is very rewarding.” The new talent opportunities will come Monday through Thursday for comedians who submitted online. Closing each of those performances will be headliners from television and film. Those who impress a panel of industry bookers and judges will have the chance to perform for the sold out weekend shows and one final winner will be paid to open for Artie Lange on Sunday October 4th. Past headliners include Amy Schumer (Comedy Central), Carlos Mencia (HBO) Judah Friedlander (30 Rock), Todd Barry (Comedy Central, Tonight Show) Ted Alexandro (Comedy Central) Hannibal Burress (Why? on Comedy Central) Chuck Nice (Vh1’s Best Week Ever), Godfrey (Comedy Central), and two handfuls of memorable comedians. For the fourth year in a row the Hoboken Comedy Festival will donate $1

from every ticket sold to support the Liberty Humane Society, a non-profit animal shelter dedicated to promoting animal welfare and providing animals shelter, behavioral therapy and adoption services. In addition, this year the festival will be partnering with the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps to raise money. Proceeds from the Comedy Festival’s “Beer Garden” will help the Hoboken EMS which represents 35 Years of keeping Hoboken strong through a 100% volunteer organization supported solely by donations. “It means a lot to the Hoboken Comedy Festival to support this cause,” Frigolette says. alking along Jersey City, have you noticed anything different about certain aluminum fences? They’ve become an artist’s canvas depicting images like ping pong players; a skateboarder; even a mermaid with long flowing hair. Although the pieces aren’t signed, they are the work of Jersey City artist Norman Kirby who has exhibited his work in galleries throughout Jersey City and beyond. Kirby creates Fence Art by weaving

scraps of canvas through the lattice of aluminum fencing that become silhouettes of a cast of characters. He even turned one fence into a love story, with two lovers falling in and out of love. “It all started about a year ago, I wanted to do some public art,” Kirby says, sitting across the street from his mermaid on Newark Ave. “Usually I look for specific spots that get a lot of foot traffic. Street lamps are key. They get lit well by the street lamps.” Kirby’s Fence Art can

They usually let him do his thing when they realize he’s an artist creating public art. STARGAZINE Sept. 2015

Aries- March 21 - April 19

STARGAZINE Judith Banta Lewis Astrology

The Moon in the first house this month has your emotions running high. Indecision about personal matters upsets and at times may find you teary eyed. This is the cleansing or might I say rebooting of your soul. You return to your cool and controlled powerful self and are much better for the experience.

Taurus- April 20 - May 20

201.339.4555 Consultation available by phone Face time, Skype and in person Stargazine 2015© Stargazing.fl@aol.com

You are a money magnet and that is your most preferred position. Analyze and strategize your finances. Did you know that by doing this you can discover waste that would be enough for a dinner at the finest restaurant.? Time and money are being lost. So take control and smile all the way to the bank!

Gemini- May 21 - June 20

Activity to the third house indicates you will be feeling right at home with the communication energy. You may be asked to speak before a group. You are considered the focus of admiration as you display your quick wit. As in nature use your talents or risk the possibility of losing the great gifts that have been bestowed upon you!

Cancer -June 21 - July 22

The word worry should be erased from your mental library. It is putting doubt into future events that have not yet crystallized. Due to our limited knowledge of the Universal plan we proceed to darken and restrict the possibilities of an amazing outcome. So with faith and optimism use the area between your ears and choose instead to think Venus and Jupiter thoughts!

Leo -July 23 - August 22

You should know, that of all the signs, Leo pushes forward without thinking of the consequences of their decisions. Powerful and loyal to a fault they never attempt to downplay their Roar!! Now is the time to count to ten and count again. Do not rush forward. Calm thoughts and a clear head are an asset this month. Rash and unbridled opinions are risky!!

Virgo -August 23 - Sept. 22 Every twelve years or so the planet Jupiter returns to our astrological sign bringing opportunities. This long awaited return is happening for the Virgo native now. What is needed to fully reap the benefits is a heart filled with possibilities and a minimal amount of criticism. Most Virgo natives have challenges in these areas.

Libra-Sept. 23 - October 22 Although many Libras love pastel colors and hate confrontations. However when pushed too far they fight back forcefully. Not in retaliation but with justice as shown by their symbol, the scales. Now Mercury in your sign in the sixth house of service indicates that you will verbally put a co- worker or business associate straight about the facts. This month you realize the power of your sign!

Scorpio - October 23 - Nov. 21

Saturn is going into Sagittarius and leaving you with some hard feelings of all the challenges you have just survived. The significant word is survived.! Now you are on the road to healing and the next months will even have you thriving both spiritually and financially. Some of this new found motivation may be attributed to Saturn.

Sagittarius -Nov. 22 - Dec. 21

The ninth house is highlighted. This is a time when you will be making plans for vacations and life. You are focused on enjoying every moment as if it were your last. The good news is that you have many years of fun in the Sun ahead of you. Your only issue is to convince those around you to leave their responsible side at home and embark on a fun expedition. Your true soul mate will be flexible in these areas.

Capricorn -Dec. 22 - Jan. 19

Activity to the ninth house governing the higher mind and education is highlighted. Opportunities for you to cleanse outdated thought patterns will be evident and you are in for an emotional ride! The final outcome, when the dust settles, an improved powerful Capricorn native.

Aquarius -Jan. 20 - Feb. 18 At times you may wonder why you aren’t as happy with your life as you should be. You are intelligent and attractive and things are pretty much going as planned. But in the lyrics of an old song you ask yourself “Is that all there is?” The answer is there is a lot more if your dare! Adventure and excitement are yours! Go for the passion and live your life! The stars approve.

Pisces -Feb. 19 - March 20

Activity to the eleventh house governing your hopes and wishes has taken the Neptune influence and made you an positive thinking freak! Instead of gloom and doom you can look on the bright side of events. You are in the right place and star pattern for growth and abundance. Look around and smile as you now can see evident changes in your life. It is just the beginning of success. Enjoy!

ArtSCENE

“This exhibition presents highlights from the Newark Museum’s collection of late modern abstraction, bringing together works by major figures and innovators experimenting with color and light, including Mark Rothko, Josef Albers, Donald Judd, Richard Anuszkiewicz, Alma Thomas and others. Minimalism and Color Field painting emerged in the 1950s and flourished throughout the 1960s and 70s. Favoring simplified geometric shapes and machine-made materials, such as steel, plastic, and fluorescent light, these artists created works that feature sleek, streamlined surfaces and bold inventive approaches to color.” SEND US YOUR ARTS LISTINGS.
