WED +THU £10 (£6) FRI + SAT £14 (£10) When his friend is stabbed, a young lad from a housing scheme falls in with a gang. The terrible revenge he takes at random brings disaster on himself and the family of his victim. Inspired by The Illiad and drawing on contemporary Glasgow’s so called “knife culture”, Fleeto is a hard hitting contemporary Scottish reinvention of the Greek tragic form.

“ A powerful and beautifully produced short play for Scotland today” JOYCE McMILLAN, THE SCOTSMAN

Using appropriately strong language, it is by turns frightening and deeply moving, provoking much thought and debate on the issue of violence in our communities.

A hilariously twisted dark comedy. In the toilet pipes of a desolate tenement lurks an oily secret that is about to tear its tiny community apart. Literally. At the centre of it all is Little Malcolm Biggar, a nine year-old with a passion for his skateboard, a harrowing fear of his lunatic neighbours, and a growing suspicion that perhaps his parents do not always have his best interests at heart...

Dark, dirty and dynamically staged, Vox Motus presents a host of outrageous characters in this explosive new performance direct from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2008. Not for those with a sensitive disposition!

Ioanna Anderson is a Scottish writer living in Dublin and is fast emerging as a leading light on the Irish writing scene. Her latest play, You Are There, premieres at this year’s Dublin Theatre Festival. This world premiere follows Tron director Andy Arnold’s huge success with The Drawer Boy and looks set to establish Six Acts of Love as a contemporary classic.

TRON THEATRE COMPANY PRESENTS

SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER BY TENNESSEE WILLIAMS DIRECTED BY ANDY ARNOLD

As lurid and deadly as a poisonous flower, Tennessee Williams’ one-act shocker comes to the stage as part of a double-bill from the Tron Theatre Company. Williams’ tale of lust and greed sees the dragonlike Mrs Venables intent on lobotomising her niece in order to suppress the truth about the shocking death of her poet son, Sebastian. Dripping with decadence and simmering with barely-suppressed hysteria, Suddenly Last Summer is a rich, darkly funny and disturbing piece of theatre. The Tron’s staging as part of this year’s Glasgay! festivities promises to be a memorable production of this classic play. TO BE PRECEDED BY:

REPLAY: TUE 11 NOV Post-show discussion

‘brilliant, ground-breaking theatre makes you feel the earth move a little under your feet’ JOYCE McMILLAN, THE SCOTSMAN (ON STANDING WAVE )

10

A hit at Òran Mór last year, this witty and satirical one-act play comes to the Tron by popular demand.

‘captivating storytelling ...very funny’ THE HERALD ★★★★

Dad’s world is the adult world of parenting and responsibility. For a long time he’s found it hard to talk to Hannah and it’s been even more difficult recently.

E Workshops for schools and secondary

This pressing question is NOT addressed by Enoch Dalmellington, resident of Virginia St. He is more concerned about marrying off his dreich pious humourless daughter Euphemia, being able to afford his pew at the Tron Kirk, and what to do about Mistress Zapata’s scurrilous predictions about Glasgow in 2008. Apparently ‘women will be attending university, the poor will all have water closets and his beloved Virginia St will become a hotbed of sodomy!’

Each night during the run of Suddenly Last Summer, the Tron Theatre Company follows that performance with three short plays by Tennessee Williams in the intimacy of the Tron’s Changing House.

HELLO FROM BERTHA Bertha imagines events and clings to allusions in her last desperate moments in this dramatic and poetic scene between a dying prostitute and her friend in a lowclass bordello.

THIS PROPERTY IS CONDEMNED A poignant conversation between a girl and a boy by the railroad tracks, during which the orphaned girl reveals how upon inheriting her dead sister’s tawdy finery, she aspires to attain her sister’s position as “the main attraction” for railroad men in the family’s derelict boarding house. This playlet was later expanded into a film of the same name starring Natalie Wood and Robert Redford.

TALK TO ME LIKE THE RAIN AND LET ME LISTEN A beautifully written ode to despair as a pair of lovers trade monologues about desperation and decay in a cheap hotel room.

With a style that is somewhere between the sweet, clear delicacy of Joni Mitchell and the tougher edges of Joan Armatrading, she first captivated us in 1990 when her independent single Standing Proud was chosen to represent Glasgow in its year of culture. Since then Laula has toured extensively across Asia and Europe, including performances at New York’s famous Carnegie Hall and an appearance at Glastonbury, where she shared the bill with Billy Bragg. With six albums under her belt she has rightly been lauded by critics as “Scotland’s leading singer-songwriter”.
