BECOME ONE OF US: Unleash your potential for a world of significant change. Welcome to one of the nation’s largest and most prestigious gatherings celebrating the contributions of active and retired African American admirals and generals from the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and National Guard and members of the Senior Executive Service (SES). Our mission is to get more American youth into engineering. With the U.S. Marine Corps as this year’s featured service, we continue our honored tradition of having each military service name a recipient of its prestigious Stars & Stripes Award. Because educational opportunities in the military is a cornerstone of the services, our annual on-site mentoring program that takes place earlier in the afternoon connects flag officers and industry executives with area high school students and continues throughout the year. We also take this opportunity to acknowledge the Top Blacks in the Military, featured in the U.S. Black Engineer & Information Technology magazine.

Welcome to the 15th Annual Black Engineer of the Year (BEYA) Stars and Stripes Dinner. One of the objectives for our military and our nation is to encourage our youth to pursue a science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) education. Thank you for helping to move this objective forward by participating in our pre-dinner mentoring or sustained mentoring and/or by attending tonight’s program. You are truly making a difference. Being on the front lines of this mentoring effort, we continue to be amazed by the positive impact our Flag, General and SES mentors have on our students. During the program, Vice Admiral Andy Winns (Ret,) will provide some specifics. We are especially pleased that the 2020 Black Engineering of the Year is one of our own, Lieutenant General Bruce Crawford US Army. As a Colonel he was one of our BEYA Stars & Stripes award winners and as a General Officer he has participated in pre-dinner mentoring for the past five years. He has inspired and motivated many of our youth to pursue a STEM education. This year, we are honored to have the United States Marine Corps as our featured service, and we are especially proud to have with us the 38thCommandant of the Marine Corps, General David H. Berger, a Tulane University Engineering graduate. Of that education he says, “It taught me to think logically, how to take apart a problem and figure it out. That part of engineering has helped me in the Marine Corps, because I believe in my soul that Marines are different. Our identity is firmly rooted in our warrior ethos. This is the force that will always adapt and overcome no matter what the circumstances are. We fight and win in any clime and place.” The BEYA Stars and Stripes Dinner is one of the nation’s largest gathering of top military and civilian federal government leaders, corporate sponsors, students, family, and STEM advocates that focuses on building interest in STEM fields and that recognizes the contributions of outstanding military men and women who do so. Congratulations to our BEYA Stars and Stripes 2020 Military awardees. You are role models and motivators for our future leaders. On behalf of Dr. Tyrone Taborn and Career Communications Group, Stars and Stripes Founders, and our military and corporate sponsors, we are most grateful that you chose to spend part of Valentine’s Day with us. We will make it a memorable experience for you— The BEYA Experience!

Dear Stars and Stripes Honorees and Guests, Booz Allen is proud to recognize and celebrate the achievements of our active and retired African American admirals, generals, and members of the Senior Executive Service. Onethird of our firm’s employees are veterans, active military, or military spouses, so we share your passion for service to country. In fact, our guiding purpose is to empower people to change the world. In delivering on that purpose, we are committed to building the most diverse workforce possible. It starts at the very top, with our Board of Directors and Leadership Team, and continues through our ranks where we are investing in a diverse pipeline of rising leaders and technologists. In addition, through programs like the USO of Metropolitan Washington’s Project Next STEP and U.S. Chamber of Commerce Hiring our Heroes, we help train transitioning servicemembers and veterans for careers in cybersecurity, data science, and other STEM fields. Congratulations to all BEYA honorees. Like each previous honoree, including Booz Allen’s own Tony Mitchell, the 2019 Black Engineer of the Year, you are blazing a trail for the next generation. Dear Stars and Stripes Honorees and Guests, On behalf of the global General Motors team, welcome to the 15th Annual Stars and Stripes Recognition Dinner. GM is honored to be part of an event that enhances career opportunities for students, recognizes key advocates in academia and Corporate America and applauds accomplishments of dedicated servicemen and women. General Motors has been a proud supporter of the U.S. military for more than a century. From supplying goods and materials when our manufacturing might was called upon during the First and Second World Wars, to assisting our Veterans and active duty military through numerous ongoing programs, GM has answered America’s call. The GM Defense team is continuing the company’s rich heritage as a technology leader by supporting the military in applying GM’s commercial-grade precision to military-grade applications. We are re-imagining advanced automotive technologies for the defense and security markets, focused on our primary capabilities in integrated vehicles, power and propulsion, autonomy, mobility and security. Strengthened by our longstanding collaboration with BEYA, GM is committed to empowering the next generation of leaders in science, technology, engineering and math. At GM, we value the opportunity to prepare today’s students and tomorrow’s workforce to address the world’s most pressing problems. This is critical in enabling GM’s vision of Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion, and helping GM Defense find innovative solutions for our Armed Forces. Roger A. Krone Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Esteemed Colleagues, On behalf of Leidos, welcome to the 15th Annual Stars and Stripes Dinner honoring several African American military leaders and their recent undertakings to advance Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) with underrepresented populations. We are proud to support this important event, and look forward to networking with tonight’s honorees and BEYA STEM attendees throughout the conference. Building a pipeline of STEM talent that reflects the face of the Nation is missioncritical – in defense and civilian environments. On the defense side, our Armed Forces encounter adversaries with peer and near peer technical capabilities more and more each day. By furthering STEM early and often, we will continue to lead when it comes to defense related technical capabilities, and never follow. On the civilian side, we need to continue modernizing government in areas like citizen-facing application development and healthcare delivery. It will be future innovators – steeped in STEM – that will see these digital transformations through. As such, the work to build a diverse STEM pipeline is an ongoing imperative. In closing, congratulations to our Stars and Stripes honorees, and thank you for all that you do. I would also like to extend a special thank you to the U.S. Marine Corps for its support as this year’s featured service. Sincerely,
Roger Krone Leidos Chairman and CEO

Stars and Stripes Committee proudly salutes the spouses of our active-duty, guard, and reserve service members. We salute you because of your inspirational support. You inspire your deployed spouses, keeping the home front intact, and are an important part of the “why” each and every warrior serves our great nation. We salute you because of your hope and can-do attitude. Service members protect our nation abroad with mission focus because of the hope and expectation of the warm embrace, lifted prayers, blanket of security, peace of mind, and welcoming home provided by a loving spouse – you. We salute you because of the sacrifices you make – careers, family dinners, holidays together, loving companionship, and innumerable other sacrifices. We salute you because you also stand the watch. While servicemen and women in uniform stand the watch in far-flung outposts of Asia, Europe, Africa, South America, and the seven seas protecting our nation from harm, you stand the watch at home protecting the family and praying for a safe return of the one you hold so dear. All in all, we salute you because you have the greatest responsibility and are the single most important member of the military family. Without your support, military careers will not happen. But with your support, all things are possible. With our deepest appreciation. Stars and Stripes Committee
