HBCU ENGINEERING DEANS’

EVENT RECOGNITION

Engineering Resilience

The truest predictor of success across every imaginable spectrum is grit. Grit is versatile as a word, and as a characteristic. It can mean resilience, or it can mean physical roughness. Run your fingers over something with grit and you feel bumps. Run your life with grit and you soar higher with every obstacle you conquer. Engineers understand this dual meaning, and it forms the basis of their work and the core of their triumphs. What is science if not trying, failing, fixing, and succeeding? How can you become everything you are if you don’t learn from mistakes, take risks, and regroup after disappointments? Engineering resilience. The interpretations and possibilities of that phrase, that responsibility, that directive, are limitless.
