Briefly explain your long- and short-term goals in regards to your career in the retail jewelry industry
My long term goal in the jewelry industry is to keep growing and continuously evolve with the industries latest trends and technology. The only way for me to do that is seeking programs and conferences such as the RJO Experience to get my feet wet to keep myself grounded and current with the industry Ultimately it would be a dream to be a well rounded educated jeweler to add onto my 7 years of fine jewelry sales experience
Q21
What participation in extracurricular/community activities are you involve and briefly discuss the importance of these experiences.
At my current employment with Michael & Son's I am actively participating in our locations annual Solace Tree foundation https://www.solacetree.org/. The Solace Tree is a non-profit organization that serves children, teens and adults in the Northern Nevada and Central California. All the children and teens served by The Solace Tree are coping with overwhelming grief issues from loss due to illness and death. I feel it is important to give back to the community that helps keep the business going generation after generation.
Q22
From a financial standpoint, what impact would this scholarship have on your continued education?
This would give me a great experience that is relatable to the field I have been in mostly for the past 7 years Most of my professional career has been in fine jewelry, anywhere from sales, to managing and dabbling in jewelry repairs Financially this exposure would only strengthen my background and add more value to my years of dedication in this field

Q20
Briefly explain your long- and short-term goals in regards to your career in the retail jewelry industry
Currently, I am working as the manager at a mom-and-pop jewelry store; I started my career in jewelry with Signet Jewelers, it was through their education and experiences discovered my passion for jewelry! I have a college history in 3D modeling, I want to use this knowledge to be able to further my career in fabricating pieces alongside my owner who is a jeweler I would like to, in the long term, be able to produce an independently designed line In the short term if I had knowledge of how to use CAD software more effectively I would be able to further my customer experiences by producing their renders for custom-designed jewelry pieces in-house which would make communicating CAD changes easier for everyone!
Q21
What participation in extracurricular/community activities are you involve and briefly discuss the importance of these experiences.
I actively participate in the RJO and JHJ Facebook groups to use my knowledge to try to help other jewelers solve problems. I happily provide my knowledge to members of my local community as well!
The biggest community project I am involved in is that our store carries a fundraiser line for a local no-kill shelter (CARA, Carolina Animal Rescue & Adoption) On top of this line, we attend various fundraiser events for them such as an annual 5K, and quarterly trade shows which 100% of our profits from the show go back to the shelter
As a local business, we should support our community, to show our neighbors that we are there should they need any assistance, even outside of jewelry!
Q22
From a financial standpoint, what impact would this scholarship have on your continued education?
This scholarship would genuinely be my only chance at attending these courses I am disabled for various medical reasons and the cost of health insurance leaves little to no room for anything outside of a car payment and insurance. The jewelry industry is a fantastic industry for handicapped individuals such as myself! Even when I have difficulties walking and require a cane I can confidently turn to my work at my desk and be assured that there is still achievable tasks at hand.

Q20
Briefly explain your long- and short-term goals in regards to your career in the retail jewelry industry
Short term I plan to continue working at Nelson Jewelry as a sales associate. If I am able to complete the courses led at New Approach, I would also be able to complete a good portion of our stores repair work. I enjoy hands on tasks, and I have been successful with the bench techniques I've learned thus far Long term I don't know whether I'd be more successful staying in Iowa, or trying to expand my horizons I have considered Florida or Arizona for some warm weather, I just have not decided what's best for me I know that wherever I end up I want to pursue a career in jewelry I love working with customers, I also love working in the shop A career allowing me to grow at both those aspects of the job would be my end goal!
Q21
What participation in extracurricular/community activities are you involve and briefly discuss the importance of these experiences.
As a store we participate in many, if not all main street events. Spencer main street puts on social events to get the community more involved with our local stores. I enjoy working these events because we get to socialize with members of main street, as well as people coming to participate in the activities. These events are important because it gets people to think about shopping small, and it creates foot traffic on Main Street. My boss Tom is also a Member of Main Street, Ambassadors, Kiwanis, City Council, Etc. He keeps us very up to date on what goes on in the community and how we can help improve it I hope to be as involved in the community as he is in the future!
Q22
From a financial standpoint, what impact would this scholarship have on your continued education?
This scholarship would help me greatly to complete the two courses requested I plan to complete both in a two week period If awarded this scholarship it would assist me for travel and lodging expenses if necessary It would also help from a tuition standpoint, each course is about $1,500 Any sort of assistance I could get would go a long way in this endeavor

RJO Scholarship Committee,
I have worked with Emily Fralick over the past 5 years. She has grown immensely since then, in regard to salesmanship, maturity and education. She has taken advantage of educational and advancement opportunities in our company. She is incredibly reliable and has a strong commitment to Wickersham and the jewelry industry. Her genuine personality and kindness has not gone unnoticed with her customers and associates, she strives to help those around her in any way she can.
She has recently received a promotion and now holds the role of merchandiser at Wickersham Jewelry. This has given her the opportunity to join in buying shows, inventory, buying goods and understanding the industry in a different light.
Emily has taken the initiative to have her GIA diamond essentials and GIA colored stone essentials courses completed and I believe she would be a great candidate to receive an RJO scholarship so she can add GIA colored stones to her education. It will help be able identify quality stones and assist in buying quality merchandise.

Briefly explain your long- and short-term goals in regards to your career in the retail jewelry industry
My short term goal is to acquire the relevant knowledge on this fantastic equipment (laser welder) available in our industry. The laser welder has quickly become my favorite piece of equipment of all. I want to be able to use this to the best of my ability, and to my store's benefit In the long-term, I would like to be able to take this knowledge and these skills with me wherever the opportunity presents itself
Q21
What participation in extracurricular/community activities are you involve and briefly discuss the importance of these experiences.
Currently I am secretary of the Georgia Jewelers Association, while I have not been in this position long, it has instilled the importance of not just my own work, but also working as a team. The more I am in this industry, the more I realize that nobody does this alone and we all need a little help sometimes. Through this organization I have built wonderful connections with people in various branches of the industry that will last for years to come.

Hodges Jewelry Co, Pelham, Ga.
Reference scholarship application for Katherine Bennett. I have hired many people in my 49 years at Hodges Jewelry Co. and I can honestly say she is by far my best hire. She has all the qualities I look for in staff. Katherine is a self starter and never needs prompting to complete or start a task. She is loyal, personable, driven and smart. Katherine had some retail experience and also has worked in a watch kiosk which was very helpful. She is good with customers in sales, but her heart is in the art of jewelry repairs. Although she has taken 2 courses in jewelry repair her desire is to get all the advanced training available. We recently purchased a laser welder for her use and she has learned to use it on a limited basis. If she can get this scholarship it would certainly enhance her value to us and help her in her future endeavors in our industry.
Katherine future plans are to concentrate on all facets of jewelry repair and sales on a limited basis only. If she is fortunate to receive this scholarship she will be thrilled to add this training to her resume. I highly recommend she receives all due consideration as someone young who wants to make her career in our industry.

Q20
Briefly explain your long- and short-term goals in regards to your career in the retail jewelry industry.
My short-term goals in regard to my career in the retail jewelry industry is to better my knowledge and strengthen my confidence in selling jewelry, diamonds and gemstones
My long-term goals include me using the knowledge I've learned to help Wickersham Jewelry grow as a small business in many aspects including selling jewelry, diamonds and gemstones and training new employees for many years to come
Q21
What participation in extracurricular/community activities are you involve and briefly discuss the importance of these experiences.
I am involved in volunteering my time with the Marshfield Youth Hockey Association. I volunteer my time to help coach the youth into amazing players and people. It is important to me to help build the youth hockey organization, but I also find it important to help grow the youth girl's teams. As an active coach I hope to inspire the younger generation of girls to realize that hockey can be played by girls and boys.
I am also active in the community through 4-H, we as a group serve at the C O M E meal as much as possible We do park clean up at a local park every fall and the roads near the clubhouse Through the years we have made dog treats for the Humane Society and volunteered our time to help clean kennels and cat cages at the human society We also prepare baskets for the children at the Marshfield Clinic who stay at the Ronald McDonald house and make throw blankets for a local assisted living group
Q22
From a financial standpoint, what impact would this scholarship have on your continued education?
From a financial standpoint I am building my life in various ways I have just graduated in May with my business management degree, and I have recently bought a 100+ year old house. With a 100+ year old house comes many required renovations like a new well, septic system and electrical box. I would find it most enjoyable to enhance my knowledge of diamonds to not only help myself but to help the store grow, this scholarship would grant me the opportunity to do so.

RJO Scholarship Committee,
I have worked with Paige Bauer for the past year and a half as her general manager and direct report. When Paige first started with Wickersham she started as a part time sales associate, her availability opened shortly thereafter and she moved into a full-time sales associate role. I knew when I met her, she had natural leadership skills and proved she had the drive and ability to achieve her goals.
We created a management training program for Paige where she transitioned from manager in training, assistant manager, and after she graduated college in the spring of 2023, store manager of our Marshfield location. Since then, she has proven that she is driven and has initiative for not only herself but also helping others succeed and find passion in jewelry. She works hard and adds value to everything she does which is a great example for her team and our organization.
I believe Paige would be a great candidate to receive an RJO scholarship based on her ability to apply what she learns and eagerness to learn more about the jewelry industry. She is an asset to our company and we would love to see her expand her knowledge!
Thank you,
Paige L Curtis General Manager Wickersham JewelyCOMPLETE COMPLETE
