Kia ora Koutou, It is always very gratifying to start the newsletter with student successes. This week we saw our Head Girl, Isidora Gonzalez Diaz attending the International Women’s Day at the Millennium Hotel on Monday. The topic was Women in Leadership and Isidora presented her views on Leadership in a Covid 19 World. Isidora did an amazing job and we are all very proud of her. (further details on page 2). We also wish our Year 11 student April Durbin all the best at the upcoming NZ National Marching Competition in March. Her Senior Marching team won the Waikato Championship last weekend, good luck! There is great anticipation and excitement with our Year 10 camp next Wednesday 17 to Friday 19 at Lake Okatina. Our students are getting ready and our staff have been very busy organizing and keeping an eye out for the weather forecast! I have no doubt it will be a great success and look forward to attending myself. We will have a full write up and pics after camp. Today I sent a letter to our school community regarding some recent events which have not been positive around our school. Sadly, a small group of students have decided amongst themselves to go against everything we stand for as a school, fighting and using violence to solve conflicts. These students have all received significant consequences. What saddens me is that these actions are by no means reflective of our student body and the positive environment that normally exists in our school. I will end this comment with a simple statement. Violence is any form will not be tolerated at Rotorua Lakes High School. I appreciate the support of our wider community and parent body in reinforcing this message. Back to the positives - we are looking forward to next week with our Swimming Sports on Monday 15 and our Investiture Assembly on Tuesday 16 at 12 noon in our gym. I hope to see you there.

___________________________________________________________________________ STUDENTS FALLING ILL DURING THE DAY Just a few guidelines if your child falls ill at school: If this occurs during class time, the student should approach the teacher to get a pass to go to the nurse. The hours of the nurse are Monday to Friday 9.45 am to 2.30 pm. The nurse is unavailable between 12.00 pm and 12.30 pm. If students have a medical problem outside of the nurse’s times, they are to go to student reception. The nurse will contact parent/caregivers if the student needs to go home. The student will then be sent to the Duty Dean’s office next to the Canteen to sign out and wait to be picked up by the parent/caregiver. At times, the nurse may request parent/caregivers to pick the student up directly from the Health and Wellness Centre. Students should not be contacting parents/caregivers directly to pick them up if they are unwell. Thank you for your cooperation, if you have any queries, please give us a call.
