FROM OUR DEPARTMENTS ___________________________________________________________________________ ROTORUA REGIONAL NZ AQUABOTS By Mrs Linda Tolentino

On Sunday, 8th November two teams from Rotorua Lakes High School competed for the Rotorua Regional NZ Aquabots held at the Rotorua Aquatic Centre. NZ AquaBots is the first underwater robotics programme for schoolaged children in New Zealand. AquaBots are a remotely operated, tethered, underwater vehicle, designed and built by students. The varying levels of sophistication of the AquaBots ensures a broad appeal to students. The students must build the structure of the AquaBot as well as solder the components, including the controller. Congratulations to: MECHA MARINES: Shyan Boyd, Kael Pyke and Bella Shaw placed third in the Te Arawa Stories Delivery Task, and Presentation AMP: Amelia Godfrey, Rayden Nguyen and Theon Pearse placed second in the Te Arawa Stories Delivery Task. MECHA MARINES

AMP

Also, congratulations to Julian Fear (Year 9) who competed for TAM Robotics and was placed third overall. Julian qualified for the Nationals competition in Masterton. Thank you to Jessica Wilkes Digital Technology Educator for organising this event and to the parents who has supported us for this journey. Thank you.

___________________________________________________________________________ ENGLISH DEPARTMENT NOVEL RETURN All novels which have been issued to Year 12 and 13 students should be returned to school as soon as possible. There will be a box in the foyer of the Auditorium where students can return their novels on the way into their English Exam. Alternatively, they can be returned to Student Reception. Students will be invoiced for any novels which are not returned by one week after their English Exam.

23

SPORTS ___________________________________________________________________________ GIRLS VOLLEYBALL On Tuesday afternoon our Junior Girls Volleyball Team hosted a mix of junior and senior girls from JPC. They enjoyed 2 hours of training and games and had a great time with the honours being very even. Well done to everyone and thanks for joining us JPC! đ&#x;˜Š

CAREERS & GATEWAY ___________________________________________________________________________ A HEADS UP TO ALL PARENTS / STUDENTS Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology is seeking to link more apprentices to the automotive technicians’ industry thanks to a Government Funding Boost. The new Targeted Training and Apprenticeships Fund scheme means employers will get money for any apprentices they agree to take on. Something to think about for any students interested in this trade.
