PACIFICA SCIENCE CONFERENCE A great opportunity has arisen for a Pacifica student to become part of a Science Conference on Global Warming and what this means for our youth. The student will need to be a capable and confident speaker as they will need to present a speech and be interviewed by a panel of Scientists about their thoughts and understanding. This is happening in September in Christchurch and the local Rotorua Pacific Islands Trust has very generously offered to pay for the successful student. If you are interested, please contact Miss M Kairaoi email: kairaoim@rotorualakes.school.nz ___________________________________________________________________________________________

SPORTS ___________________________________________________________________________ BOYS 1ST X1 HOCKEY We travelled to Whakatane to play in the semi finals for this round. We were the underdogs but we had a lot of confidence in the development that has been made over the past 5 weeks. The game started hard with strong defence needed to hold Whakatane at Bay. We settled into the game but for the full game it was played at full pace up and down the field. Half time saw us with a nil all draw, boasting our belief in ourselves. 15 mins into the second half after successive PC's against us Whakatane scored. The boys’ determination moved up a notch and within 5 mins a beautiful pass to Hunter Thompson in the circle saw him belt the ball into the goal. The remaining time was nail biting but the boys held on. The game required a winner so we went into 8 penalty shoot outs - a lot of pressure on our goalie Henry Schwitzer and 5 shooters Hunter Thompson, Tama Te Whau, Cam Forrest, Jamaalullah Abdul Rahman and Liam Gatenby. After our first 4 attempts Whakatane lead by 1 goal so it was a must score for Liam Gatenby which he did! That left us fingers crossed for a save by Henry but unfortunately that wasn’t to be the case. Final score 3-2 to Whakatane. The boys were amazing and gave everything to the game. Very impressive! Player of the day was Amanullah Abdul Rahman.
