Kia ora Koutou, On Tuesday this week we had our annual Rotorua Lakes High School Swimming Sports at the Rotorua Aquatic Centre. Due to covid number restrictions we had our competitive swimmers only but that didn’t dampen the students’ enthusiasm. We had a great day and the students were fantastic, highly competitive and showcased their many talents in all events. Special mention to Leonard Rankin who broke the junior boys 100m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke and 50m Butterfly records and to Hannah Kiernan who broke the intermediate girls 50m Breaststroke record Thank you to all our fantastic students and to our Heads of House for organizing. (further details on page 5). It was great to hold our full school athletics championships last week as this time last year we were in lockdown! It was an outstanding day filled with our students competing and participating in our track and field events. I must mention that Ava McGrath, our year 9 student has beaten a 48 year old Junior Girls Discus record by 62cm! Very well done and my thanks to everyone involved for their participation and hard work. (further details on page 6). It is fantastic to see our sporting results coming in again full details on pages 5 – 6. Our Talent Quest is here! To all our talented students don’t forget the Talent Quest heats are coming up on 28 to 30 March with the final on Thursday 31 March. I am looking forward to seeing our students’ performances. As always, have a great weekend. Stay safe. Ngā mihi,

Jon Ward Principal / Tumuaki

___________________________________________________________________________ CITYRIDE BUS SERVICES Please note all Rotorua Cityride bus services have moved to a revised COVID-19 bus timetable; so that we can run a reliable service to meet our community’s needs. Bus routes 1 to 10 will now run on a Sunday timetable and Routes 11 and 12 will remain on a Saturday timetable every day due to COVID-19 impacts. This means that all urban bus services in Rotorua will run to an hourly frequency, which is half of the normal weekday service.

NEWS FROM OUR TEACHERS ___________________________________________________________________________ 11 AOE Tramping & Camping experience in Term 1 has been postponed until Term 2. ___________________________________________________________________________ IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR WHANAU / CAREGIVERS OF SENIOR ART STUDENTS All senior students have their internal assessment tasks uploaded to google classroom, as well as a paper handout for students who may be isolating at home without a device. This will allow students to continue on through the NCEA programmes with very little problem. As we are a department that has practical subjects, our goal is to adapt where needed to meet the requirements of NCEA. If your son or daughter is isolating, and they have an assessment due that they cannot submit, can you please contact your child's subject teacher in the first instance. This will then allow us to make arrangements as needed.

___________________________________________________________________________ YEAR 9 NUMERACY TESTING All Year 9 students have now been numeracy tested. These results are being used to inform teachers in numeracy based subjects. This means students can be scaffolded or extended. Some students will be further supported within the Accelerated Numeracy Programme which runs as intensive small groups for 8 hours a week and as an extra teacher within some junior mainstream Maths classes. RLHS is very appreciative for the support of the Ngati Whakaue Education Endowment Trust Fund, in collaboration with RECT, who fund a significant portion of the expenses for this programme each year. If your student is a part of the more intensive numeracy programme a letter will be sent home. Interested whanau/caregivers who are concerned about their student's level of numeracy are welcome to ask about their student's results by e-mailing kellyk@rotorualakes.school.nz
