Delegates from the UK dressed as punk rockers’!

On Saturday 12th August, Mrs Hodge took 6 students to the Tauranga Council Chambers to take part in the Model United Nations Assembly. Teams of three represented a country in a mock Security Council meeting (19 countries in total from a range of BOP secondary schools) and debated issues relevant to their country's position. Madison Love, Sam Davidson and Te Aorere White represented the UK and Emma Jackson, Leroy Nirkka and Manaia Malcolm spoke on behalf of France. The debate for the day was around Economic Disparity and throughout the day, with formal procedural process, the United Nations was able to agree on a resolution. Students were able to also hear from Todd Muller who is the MP for Bay of Plenty and Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade select committee which inspired our students to further investigate study and careers in diplomatic relations and global affairs. _________________________________________________________________________________ YEAR 11 MSC MATHS TUTORIAL FOR MCAT Year 11 MSC Maths teachers will be available next Friday 25 August to provide teaching and revision for the upcoming MCAT External Maths exam. We need volunteers with good literacy skills to support these students by reading and/or writing for them in examinations as well as in class tests. An added Ministry of Education requirement is that volunteers undergo Police vetting, for which the school submits the paperwork. If you think you can help please contact Anne Perrott at 3456124 Extension 250 or email perrotta@rotorualakes.school.nz

CAREERS NEW ZEALAND Thinking about teritary study? Making decisions about tertiary study is a big deal for students. The sooner they do this before they head off to tertiary study, the better off they will be. We know many students know exactly what they want to study and where, and just as many are still thinking about what's next. A great resource for all students is the Careers New Zealand website, there's a section just for secondary school students to help them with their decision making. https://www.careers.govt.nz/plan-your-career/im-at-school-and-needideas __________________________________________________________________________________________

FROM THE STUDY LINK TEAM Sign up for information - registration page Last year we launched our "Sign up for info" form on the StudyLink website. We wanted to make it easy for high-school students to register for regular updates from us on things like when to apply and what documents to send us. It was a great success with nearly 2,000 students registering. This year's form is now up and running. There's a link on the StudyLink homepage and it takes seconds to complete. We would really appreciate your support again this year in encouraging your Year 13 students to register. Sign up for information Students should also check out StudyLink's website to think about what it will cost to live and study. The tools and calculators will help them get a picture of the financial choices they will face and how they will manage as they move into tertiary study
