Kia ora Koutou, Just a heads up that the newsletter next week will be sent out on Monday 28 June instead of Friday. On that note, we have decided to trial the newsletter fortnightly on Friday rather than weekly. Sharing news with our community is important to us, if you have any views or questions on this please email humphriesj@rotorualakes.school.nz. The school will be closing early at 3 pm on Monday 21 June. Buses will run as normal. This is to facilitate a full staff professional development meeting. Thank you for your cooperation. We had a fantastic start to the week with our 2021 Rotorua Lakes High School Haka Competition. All our houses competed and were in fine form. It is really great to see how well our students have done and the hard work that has been put into this event. Thank you so much to all our Heads of Houses, Ms Marleina Nelson and Mrs Pani McLean, who have been instrumental in leading and working with our students and in developing such an inclusive culture in our school. (full details on page 3). Also, a great week this week for our mountain bike riders who put on quite the show last weekend at the RMTBC triple crown securing us podium finishes. Well done. A very well done to Scott Heron our Yr 10 student who competed in the ITRACCS Championships. Scott will be competing at Nationals in July and we wish him all the best. Fantastic win for our Girls Rugby with a whopping 46- 0! against Te Akatea. Fabulous win girls well done. Another stellar week for our Netball teams with great plays and goal execution. Well done. (full details pages 4 – 6) Have a great weekend even though it is supposed to be pretty bleak. Ngā mihi

___________________________________________________________________________ GREAT STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE Lakes High School Senior Leaders spent Thursday at the GRIP Student Leadership Conference at the Rotorua Novotel. They had a fantastic day discovering new talents, boosting leadership skills and knowledge, interacting and networking with other leaders from around the North Island and having a whole lot of fun along the way. Well done to all of you. It was fantastic to see you put your selves out there😊

___________________________________________________________________________ WELL DONE SCOTT HERON Scott Heron our Yr 10 student competed in Auckland on the weekend, in the ITRACCS Championships Trampoline and Double Mini (DMT). He got 3rd place for Double Mini Trampoline (DMT) and 4th for Trampoline in his age group. Scott got a qualifying score for DMT and so he will be competing at Nationals in July. We are really proud of what Scott has achieved, considering the challenges he had having to have his appendix out at the beginning of the competition season which resulted in him having to miss a lot of training and several competitions. Congratulations Scott very well done😊

SPORT ___________________________________________________________________________ OUTSTANDING LAKES RIDERS IN THE RMTBC Lots of very talented Lakes High riders in the RMTBC Triple Crown on the weekend. The Triple Crown is a rally-style stage race – where you pedal up a liaison and then race down three race stages through the day. Bit of a battle up front in the juniors between Jack Eggleston and Charlie Millington. It was very close between Jack and Charlie for 3rd and 5th respectively. Year 9 student, Poppy Croucher was outstanding in the U19 girls coming in second in the girls’ race. Well done to all😊 RESULTS: Junior Boys: Jack Eggleston 4th Charlie Millington 5th William Harvey 9th George Harvey 11th Harry Lei 13th Junior Girls: Poppy Croucher 2nd One of the local pros- Sam Shaw pulled a backflip in his race run… check out this video for some great action! https://www.facebook.com/RotoruaMountainBikeClub/videos/4213770398643598 4

We also lent Te Akatea 3 of our players to make it more competitive, thank you to our girls for doing this. Great sportsmanship. Players of the Day Teneka Huriwai and Phoenix Andrews. At half time Tauhara were leading by 3 to 0. Full time score was 7 to 0 , to Tauhara girls . The final score does not reflect how much the Lakes girls Football skills have improved and even the Tauhara coach said, “our Lakes girls had the Tauhara girls running all over the place.”

Player of the day was Kya Stewart who played absolutely superbly in defence.

___________________________________________________________________________ BOYS 2XI HOCKEY The 2nd XI Boys Hockey team travelled to Taupo to face the undefeated TNT 2nd XI. The boys responded exceptionally well to the challenge and played hard through all 4 quarters with enthusiasm and determination in defence. While the end scoreline with 4-0 to TNT, the boys showed they can compete against these top sides. Brodie Morgan was solid in defence all night long and Lachie Hoggard had some great saves in goal to frustrate TNT. Our Player of the Day AJ Tague ran all night long working hard in defence and attack. At the end of the game the umpires also acknowledged the way in which our team played hard but clean hockey. Awesome work Boys!

BOYS 1XI HOCKEY Semi final round this week with a game against Whakatane High. It was a tough game with the boys struggling to find their rhythm. The final quarter saw them play at the level they should be - hard defense and strong attack. A beautiful goal returning the ball that had come off the goalie's pads saw Sam Reid score his first for the season. Final score of a loss 3-1. Player of the Day Teina Meenehan.

NEWS FROM OUR TEACHERS ___________________________________________________________________________ SEXWISE WORKSHOP Sexwise is coming to RLHS Monday 28th & Tuesday 29th June They will be giving presentations to the Year 10 Cohort. The goal is to create a transformational and empowering experience, rather than simply deliver information. The facilitation method acknowledges rangatahi/youth as sexual beings who can make healthy choices. Healthy Relationships and Sexuality themes and dilemmas are performed by the Performer-Facilitators. The narrative intentionally contains loose ends and unresolved conflicts to provoke thinking. Unresolved conflicts framed in the performance are the basis for dialogue with rangatahi/youth audience members about the issues and behaviours depicted. Audience members have an opportunity to provide real advice to the fictitious characters. In this way, our approach acknowledges young people as knowledgeable and fosters peer learning.
