_________________________________________________________________________ VISUAL ARTS SENIOR TUTORIALS Visual Arts senior tutorials begin next Thursday March 7th 3.30 - 5pm. These will continue until the end of term. The purpose of these tutorials is to support senior students with assessment tasks. It is also a great time for students to complete any unfinished work they may have. Bring a snack and your work!
_________________________________________________________________________ NUMERACY TESTING Numeracy testing has been completed for all Year 9 students and new Year 10 students. Current Year 10 students who were here for Year 9 have results based on the post testing done at the end of 2018. This data is used to inform teachers of individual student's strengths and weaknesses in numeracy. It is just one tool used to help teachers differentiate their teaching in numeracy based subjects. If any parent or guardian would like to know more information about their student's numeracy results please email Mrs Kelly at kellyk@rotorualakes.school.nz
_________________________________________________________________________ ROAD SAFETY YOUTH EXPO Rotorua Lakes Council is holding a Road Safety Youth Expo on Tuesday 12th March, 9.30 to 12.00, at the Rotorua Energy Events Centre. All of the Year 11 Students will be attending this course and transport will be provided to and from the venue. We expect our students to be in correct uniform for this day and they will need to bring a snack, as the canteen will not be available at interval.
________________________________________________________________________ FROM THE HEALTH & WELLNESS CENTRE A registered nurse educator from Asthma New Zealand (Lakes Region) will be attending Rotorua Lakes High School to support and educate asthmatic teens around their asthma. We offer a free one on one assessment service where we assess all newly enrolled students who have asthma, as well as those who might be having issues managing their asthma. We seek to improve our regions asthma outcomes by educating people around their asthma so they can better understand their condition and how best to manage it. We also aim to keep students in school and reduce school absenteeism caused from poorly controlled asthma. We make sure the students are on the right medications, and use good asthma inhaler technique and help the student to find ways for them to best manage their asthma individually. Please inform the school nurse if you do not wish your child to be seen by the Asthma NZ nurse. To find out more about us please visit our website at https://www.asthma.org.nz/ Or contact Nurse Educator Amanda Vercoe, Phone: 021 0844 1635 Email: Rotorua@asthma.org.nz

CAREERS & GATEWAY Don McCarrison is looking to expand his painting and decorating business. He is offering the right student/s a great opportunity to experience what this trade is all about through a school Gateway program. Last year he successfully employed one student from the Gateway opportunity and now this student is currently in an apprenticeship. He is looking for a young person who shows a great attitude, is willing to learn and able to turn up to work when required. This opportunity could lead to an apprenticeship going forward for the right candidate. The painting and decorating industry is a fabulous industry. It has endless opportunities if you have big aspirations. There is no shortage of work out there, and once you become qualified in the trade there is great money to be earned.
