SCHOOL CLOSED FOR TEACHING THURSDAY 27 UNTIL 12 NOON PPTA paid union meeting to vote whether to ratify the latest offer is this Thursday 27 June. MICROSOFT OFFICE SPECIALISTS CHAMPIONSHIPS On Wednesday 12 June 2019, three students competed in Microsoft Office Specialists Championships. The students were Charlie
Oehlrich, Larry Vic Rivada, and Logan Windelborn. All three students are part of the IT ACADEMY CLASS. They were chosen to represent Lakes High School in this prestigious programme based on scores in their results, plus the time it took to complete the examination. There were two parts of the competition; one practical examination, and one problem-solving.
Each part is 50 minutes long. Charlie did the practical examination in 18 minutes and scored 966 points out of a 1000 points.
All boys represented our school extremely well. Congratulations boys, well done! Charlie Oehlrich: First Place for PowerPoint Logan Windelborn: First Place for Excel Larry Vic Rivada: Second Place for Word Both Charlie and Logan are now in the pool to represent New Zealand in the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championships in New York, USA. Should they be successful they will travel to the USA which is an all-expenses paid trip. Their goal is to bring home a cash prize of US$7,000 each. KAPA HAKA On the 5th of July 2019 our school Kapa Haka roopuu Te Manu Taiko o Pukepoto will be performing in the Whakataetae Kapa Haka a rohe o Te Arawa, the Te Arawa Secondary school kapa haka competition in the hope of qualifying for the National Competition next year. The event will take place at the Energy Events Center. Below are the details for ticketing. All tickets can be purchased online from ticketmaster or at the Events center: Adults $10 & Children $5 Under 5 are free (sitting on parents lap) Koeke 60+ are free, however, tickets are only available for pick up on the day
Our kids have been working hard towards this event and any support will be much appreciated. ___________________________________________________________________________________________
LAKES HIGH TALENT QUEST 2019 Well done to all the students who participated in the heats during the week. We have such amazing talent at our school and we are very lucky that you want to share it. It is always a difficult job to choose the finalists. This year the finalists will be divided into a Junior section and a Senior section. There will be a 1st Place Junior act, a 1st Place Senior act and a Judges Choice Award. The Talent Quest will be held on Wednesday afternoon in Week 10.

___________________________________________________________________________ PRIME MINISTER’S PACIFIC YOUTH AWARDS Warm Pacific greetings, Whether it is in the business, charity, innovative research, creative arts or sports, Pacific youth make an enormous contribution to their communities. The Prime Minister’s Pacific Youth Awards (PMPYA) recognizes individuals creating a positive impact, as well as their accomplishments. Applications for the 2019 PMPYA are now open and close on 30 June 2019 at 5 pm. Winners will be notified in July before being invited to receive their award at a special ceremony in Parliament in August.

LOST PROPERTY Items of lost property (including school uniform) are being held at Student Reception. They will be held until the end of the term, after that they will be disposed of and/or sent to charities. __________________________________________________________________________________________
MOBILE DENTAL SERVICE - HEALTH & WELLNESS CENTRE The Dental service is for any student under 18 years old who are not enrolled with a Dentist. Forms which were sent home for all students under 16 who do not have a dentist named on their school enrollment please return ASAP to student reception. ___________________________________________________________________________ VISUAL ART Tutorials are now running every THURSDAY after school 3.30 – 4.30 pm in C3 All senior Art, photography or sculpture students from any year 11/12/13 class can attend. These will continue as needed throughout the year. The purpose of these tutorials is to support senior students with assessment tasks. It is also a great time for students to complete any unfinished work they may have. Students bring a snack and your work!
SPORTS ___________________________________________________________________________ BOYS HOCKEY 1ST X1 Playing off for 3rd and 4th in the first round, the boys came out firing with a win firmly fixed in their minds. Within 5 mins Tama Te Whau found the back of the goal after a skillful run through the centre. The boys continued in the same steam with many shots at goal. Another two were scored in the first half by Tama and Jamaalullah Adbul Rahman. The second half saw real dominance by Lakes with the ball hardly making into our goal area. Another goal by Jamaalullah saw the final score at 4-0. POD Campbell Forrest.

BCITO are hosting Trade Secrets, a event for secondary school students, their parents/caregivers and those looking for a change in career, to better understand the different pathways and opportunities in building and construction. Hear from ex-All Black, Chris Jack, who after retiring from professional rugby has pursued a successful career in construction and is now a qualified professional. We will also have local employers and apprentices as well as BCITO staff available to discuss what it’s like to work in each trade, career development, fees free and how career seekers can get work ready for an apprenticeship in construction.
Constructing your future The Building and Construction Industry is facing unprecedented growth and NZ’s demand for more housing and as infrastructure continues to rise. This growth means industry needs to employ and train more skilled professionals. Careers in Construction are more professional, more skilled and in higher demand than ever.
