___________________________________________________________________________ GORDON HARRIS ART SUPPLIES A huge thankyou to the school team at Gordon Harris Art Supplies. This company supplies painting kits for all our year 12 and 13 painters and is a great supporter of the Visual Art department. When the staff at Gordon Harris heard about Oceana Guilloson’s accident, they gifted her a very valuable art easel so she could keep painting for her NCEA assessments. Oceana is a very talented artist, and the art department were really thrilled with this generous gift.

___________________________________________________________________________ YEAR 12 TOURISM Friday, the Yr12 Tourism class spent a fantastic day out in the sun experiencing more of what the tourism industry in Rotorua has to offer. Students were able to observe all types of tourists and see how different sized businesses cater for tourists by visiting the Agrodome (farm show and tour), Velocity Valley, AmazeMe and Rainbow Springs. Highlights of the day were Ben milking a cow, Stacey feeding a baby goat, screaming through the air on the Swoop, completing the maze without cheating and taking home huge amounts of feijoas from the orchard! A great opportunity for students to be tourists in their own city and see the myriad of work roles available at these major attractions.
___________________________________________________________________________ READERS / WRITERS WE NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL ASSESSMENT CONDITIONS We are dependent on volunteers who support students by reading and/or writing for them in assessment tasks, either in class or at examinations. A Reader/Writer must be proficient at reading and writing at the required level; undergo a Police Vet, which the school does on your behalf; and the key requirement: be available during the day. For further information, please contact: Anne Perrott: perrotta@rotorualakes.school.nz

SPORTS ___________________________________________________________________________ BOYS HOCKEY We travelled to Whakatane last night for a game against Whakatane High. We started well with strong defence leading to several attempts on goal. Unfortunately Whakatane slipped behind our defences on two occasions in the first half to score each time. We came out fighting again in the second half but it was not to be a scoring night for us despite a beautiful run from Cam Forrest down to the base line with a hit into three waiting attackers and no defenders! Final score 0-4. Player of the day: Kyle Wilson
___________________________________________________________________________ MIXED HOCKEY Played Thursday night, an exciting game with some great defense. Lost 4-1. Ethan Hoggard scored the goal with a great assist from Samuel Trass. Player of the day: Ethan Hoggard.
