Kia ora Koutou, Here we are at the end of another busy and productive term. There has been a lot of hard work and learning over the last 10 weeks and I am proud of our student achievements, as are the teaching staff. Term 4 is short in length, so it is very important to maintain progress now regardless of how long the end of the year seems away. Please let the school know if there is anything we can do to assist. It is my hope that our senior students understand that the next 2 weeks gives them a great opportunity to spend time preparing for the exams in term 4. They also need a chance to re-charge their batteries and reflect on what still needs to be done. It was saddening that we had to cancel Interhouse Day on Thursday. Unfortunately, the weather did not play ball. We still had the Interhouse Haka Competition take place. Well done to Okareka for their win and to Keidon Himiona who was the winner of the Leader Award . For those who have gone to the trouble and expense of getting costumes to dress up for Interhouse Day, we will be holding some form of postponement event early in Term 4. Obviously, we want to balance giving our students something fun and to celebrate, whilst maintaining a focus on critical academic learning. I will be meeting with our Year 13 House Captains and Staff Heads of House to sort through the details of this event. Thank you all for your support of the school this term and the students in their learning journeys, and thank you to our staff for going above and beyond to provide quality education during these unprecedented times. May I take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you an enjoyable break. For those travelling, keep safe. I look forward to seeing everyone back safe, well, energetic and focused at the start of Term 4.
Nga mihi,
Jon Ward Principal / Tumuaki 1
NEWS ___________________________________________________________________________ INTERHOUSE HAKA COMPETITION We had a tremendously successful day on Thursday this week with our Interhouse Haka Competition. Our students were fired up and ready to go! It was fantastic to see how positive and confident our Houses were and, without doubt, this was the hardest fought battle to date. We were particularly happy to have the Judges with us this year, which made the atmosphere electric! All our students worked exceptionally hard and we are very proud of them.

SPORTS __________________________________________________________________________ 1ST X1 BOYS HOCKEY The final game for the season was played last night - and it had to be drizzling! We were in the finals against Tauhara, and with 3 players down due to camp we knew it was going to be tough. By the first half we were down one goal with the score 2-1. We dug deep but unfortunately couldn't claw any more back and let a few more slip past us. It was an exceptional game with the team digging deep, playing together as a unit. Goal scorer Jamaalullah Abdul Rahman.

The season has been brilliant for the boys - moving from A grade to B and then holding their own against teams in the A grade. We owe all of this to wonderful coaching and mentorship by coach Owen Mitai Wells. A huge thank you to him for all he does! Another huge shout out to all our supporters - it is a boost to the boys to hear you cheering for them. FINAL PLACING 2ND IN GRADE A2!
__________________________________________________________________________ ON HER WAY TO THE NATIONAL SQUASH CHAMPIONS Huge congratulations to our Year 12 student, Monique Hingston who has been selected to represent the Bay of Plenty at the Champions of Champions National Squash Tournament for her grade. This event is being held on the 9 – 11 October in Okakune. We wish her all the very best. GO MONIQUE!
CAREERS & GATEWAY __________________________________________________________________________ GREAT COURSE FOR OUR GATEWAY STUDENTS Recently some senior students just completed a course in MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform ) . We had a Knuckle boom and scissor lift set up in the school. After all the theory on the health and safety of the machines the students were able to harness up and operate them themselves. This was a hands on enjoyable course for all. A great Certificate and Advantage for them before entering into the workplaceđ&#x;˜Š
