NCEA REVIEW Currently the Ministry of Education is conducting a review of NCEA which is open to all members of the community to have their say. We have been advertising this in our newsletter for the past few weeks. As this the time students are working through course selection for next year we would like to reassure parents that NCEA as it stands will still be in place next year (Yr 11-13) as it currently is. The review is around possible changes at year 11 in the future (2020 onwards), so next year's Year 11's will have no changes to the current structure of NCEA certificates.

DANCING WITH THE STARS Tori Bolton was part of the student dance couple competing in the glitz and glamour Hospice fundraiser last weekend at the Energy Events Centre in front of over 2000 people. Dancers were judged by Dame Valerie Adams, Tamati Coffey, Suzanne Paul and d'Artagnan Kennedy. Tori did very well, performing a Chacha to a Grease song. She spoke well about her involvements with Hospice and the many RLHS teachers in the audience all thought she did the school proud. Well done Tori!

BOYS SOCCER The penultimate game for Rotorua Lakes High School was overcast and after 2 wins the boys were on an upward streak. The focus was to play a good clean game against Western Heights High School 1st XI, the second team in the league. It started with a hiss and a roar with WHHS scoring a messy first goal but Lakes rallied and Josh Morley didn't hold back and scored a beautiful goal for the team with a mammoth run down field. This was shaping up to be a very intense game and those of us on the sideline were nervous. Heights came back to score another goal and so when our coach arrived it was a nail biting 2 -1. Lakes continued to play with skill and good sportsmanship as the game continued. Sean Foley was injured a quarter of the way into the game when his shoulder connected with the oppositions boot. His dedication and skill in saving goals was neccessary in keeping the score down. We are happy to report he is not broken, just very sore. No more goals were scored in this game and a very proud Lakes High team left the field knowing they had given a good challenge to Heights. Man of the Match was captain Brad Francis. One more game left!! _________________________________________________________________________________________

BOYS HOCKEY We were back in Taupo last night to face TNT. We have previously played them twice - a draw in the first and a loss by 1 goal in the second. We knew we had it in us to win, so the boys took the turf with this objective. 15 mins in, after play up and down the field, Orrin Lewis shot at goal with Hunter Thompson touching the ball to ensure it got in. We played hard but a lapsed moment saw TNT score a goal. Second half a determined team came out and had a good number of shots of goal but just couldn't score! TNT managed a second goal. The boys fought hard and with a change of position in the last 3 minutes saw Josh Donald manage a beautiful reserve sweep into the goal in the last 30 seconds! Another draw 2-2! PLAYER OF THE DAY Gabriel Santos.
