ABSENTEE TEXTING Our apologies for the absentee texting line being out of order this week. We are working on this and it should be up and running by Monday. We thank you for your patience.
___________________________________________________________________________ GENERAL ACTIVITIY DONATION Each year the school seeks from parents a $70 donation per student, (this amount is included in the school fees account). This donation can be claimed as a charitable donation through Inland Revenue. At Rotorua Lakes High School we spend the donation on first aid supplies, school nurses, and student diaries, and to support co-curricular activities. It is unfortunate that we need to seek charitable support from parents / whanau for so-called ‘free education’ but government grants to schools do not cover a lot of extras.
Thank you very much to the parents and whanau who pay this voluntary donation. ___________________________________________________________________________ INFO FOR THE UPCOMING BOARD ELECTIONS
(Please note date for Rotorua Seminar in the poster below) NZSTA would like to encourage parent and whanau participation on school boards in order to help shape and support the education of their children. To that end, we will be rolling out the Korari Programme for anyone interested in finding out about standing for the school board elections and having a say in the education of their children. The courses below are also available on our website: 1. Korari: a programme that provides you with governance training to help you understand the role of school boards of trustees. 2. Korari form: NZSTA will support anyone who advises us they are interested in becoming a trustee, by way of the workshops but also providing access to our Learning Management System where online modules re. school governance, student achievement etc. can be completed. 3. Community member guide to the role of the board of trustees: This explains a lot of commonly asked questions and information about becoming a trustee. For all forms and information visit New Zealand School Trustees Association

SPORTS __________________________________________________________________________ YEAR 12 SPORTS SCIENCE TERM 1 Term 1 was very busy for the Year 12 Sports Science class. The focus was on demonstrating social responsibility and after developing these skills within the class environment, they ventured to Owhata Primary to run games with the Year 1 students. They planned and delivered a 45 minute session over 4 weeks. This was a fantastic opportunity to develop their leadership skills and they did an amazing job with the young Owhata students.
The end of the term concluded with a 3 day camp which the class planned, organized and implemented themselves. It was a fun filled 3 days of Adrenalin Forest, walks, surfing, beach activities and rafting.
__________________________________________________________________________ HOCKEY Hockey session is starting next week. All students need to be at their games 1/2 hour before the start of the game, with all their gear. Please remember mouth guards and shin pads are compulsory for the students to play on the turf. If for any reason your student can not make a game then they need to let their manager know well in advance so arrangements can be made for the team. Tuesday 7th May RLHS Girls X1 team are playing WHHS2 @ 5.45 on Turf 1 RLHS Girls 2nd X1 team are playing TNT2 @ 4.30 on Turf 2 Thursday 9th May RLHS Boys X1 team are playing Whakarewa @ 5.45 in Taupo RLHS Mixed team are playing JPC2 @ 4.30 on Turf 2 If there are any changes to these game times, we will let you know before the game.
