Kia ora Koutou, A busy and exciting week for many of our students with Year 13 Camp alternatives in full swing. Students have been enjoying many positive activities to develop team work, leadership, empathy and establish how our Year 13’s can individually and collectively impact on our culture as a school. I look forward to seeing how the skills we have been working on are brought back into Lakes High for the benefit of the entire school community. We are looking forward to our Athletics Day on 10 March and our Swimming Sports Day on 15 March (further details on page 2). Unfortunately, due restrictions at the Aquatic Centre, this year will be for competitive swimmers only and no spectators are allowed. As you all know, it has been quite hectic here with the constant changes and issues surrounding covid. I wanted to say how much I appreciate the hard work our teachers are doing under very difficult precedencies. Currently we have 9 staff down and this is likely to rise. I do not wish to dwell overly on the negative aspects but would like to comment that it takes quite a bit of juggling to get all our students the best education possible under the circumstances and we appreciate your support and understanding. I continue to appreciate the feedback from parents regarding our school. Thank you for taking the time to do this.
Ngā mihi,
Jon Ward Principal / Tumuaki

___________________________________________________________________________ VERY SUCCESSFUL AT THE AON JUNIOR ROWING REGATTA The Rotorua Lakes High Rowing Crew were finally able to have a regatta at Karapiro last weekend. The crew, made up of Sara
O’Driscoll, Lauren Thompson, Grace Haack, Lizzie Avis and Holly Thompson, competed at the Aon Junior Regatta. It was a long, hot day with Heats and Finals all raced on the same day due to Covid restrictions. They made it into finals for all of their events, so they had four races in the day. Their u17 quad sculls, and Sara and Grace in the u17 double sculls, both made it to a B Final. Lauren and Lizzie came away with a first place in their C Final of the Girls u16 double sculls! Fabulous result – well done. Their next regatta will be the North Island Secondary School Champs which is scheduled for 13 March.
