Kia ora Koutou,
This week I have had the pleasure of attending the Secondary Schools Principal’s Conference in Blenheim. A huge thank you to Deputy Principal Jo Sturme for stepping in as Acting Principal. The school was in very safe hands.
Well done to our students, who attended the Isport Foundation “Connecting to Character” Youth Leadership Day on 28 May in Rotorua. A total of 51 schools were chosen and approximately 700 students attended the iSPORT Foundation Leadership Day. A star packed event with Richie McCaw, Dan Carter, Willie Apiata, Honey HiremeSmiler and Les Elder the guests of honour. Our students were thrilled to meet our NZ stars and even had the chance to join workshops with them! Such a fantastic day for our students – they did us proud!
Our competitive challenges assembly was this week. A tight and exciting game of football between our Houses. Well done to all our students. As always, a big thank you to our Heads of House for putting in the hard work in organizing these events.
Our sports teams had a very busy week this week with our Rock Climbing team competing in the BOP Secondary School Champs. Our swimmers showed their formidable talent at Taupo XLR8 meet last weekend with 2 gold, one silver and 1 bronze medal wins.
Another win for our 2nd Girls Hockey team and our Girls Football Team, who had their first win! Well done. Our Girls Rugby had their first competition game against JPC this week and played an awesome game. Our Boys Hockey team are always consistent and had a great game this week against top of the table Taupo nui a Tia. It is also fantastic to see our Netball Team and our Squash Team have so many wins! (For all details and results please see pages 5 – 7).
We have an extra day to look forward to this weekend. Have a great Monday off and enjoy the break.
Ngā mihi
Jon Ward, Principal / Tumuaki, wardj@rotorualakes.school.nz
