Kia ora Koutou, Welcome back to Term 2. I hope you all had a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Over the holidays our Kapa Haka group put in a tremendous amount of hard work and practice sessions for the upcoming National Championships on 2 June. It is fantastic to see our students so excited and motivated and just a tiny bit nervous! Our Head of Maori Department, Ms Nelson, also advised that the Tutors are very proud of our students and very impressed with the commitment and mahi shown. Well done to our students and to everyone involved for all your hard work. Our winter sports teams are up and running which is a great way to begin the term. We look forward to a strong season with all our teams. A shout out to all our hard working coaches and managers for the upcoming season. A huge well done to our Year 13 student, Charlie Millington who has been chosen to participate in the UCI Junior World Cup for Cross Country Mountain Biking Championships held in MacKay, Queensland, Australia at the end of May. All the best Charlie. (further details on page 2). Also, during the holidays, our Year 10 student, Nico Dunn competed in the Halberg Games, which were held at King's College in Auckland. Nico produced an awesome set of results; 2nd in the 100m, 4th in the 400m and 3rd in the 800m. Well done. (further details on page 2) We had a very different House assembly on Tuesday 4 May. The Heads of House have organized Competitive Challenges for all houses over the next few weeks. Students will play football, touch rugby, basketball, volleyball and netball games against each other’s houses. It was a very successful first event and a great way to encourage school spirit and student involvement. Thank you to all our Heads of House who have worked hard to organize this. Finals for each sport will be held at lunchtimes. (see pics on page 3). Please note that our school is closed on Tuesday 18 May 2021 for a Teacher Only Day to develop the current changes to NCEA teaching and assessment. I understand that this can be a hassle in keeping your child at home but these days are important for the development of our school. (Further details on page 5).
