________________________________________________________________________ ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR 13 CAMP
This year’s Year 13 Camp was exhausting, but hugely rewarding. From 6.30 in the morning until after the sun set, students were active with everyone enthusiastic to give everything they had. Bonds were established and students gained a greater understanding of their peers and expressed what the true Lakes High culture meant to them. It is our hope that this feeling of support and team work will prove invaluable as seniors of the school. For once the weather was totally on our side; amazing sunshine for the entire camp. Over the four days students took part in various team-building activities, surfed, learnt goal setting and relaxation techniques, swam and performed a wealth of talent at night time. Thank you to the staff who came along; Paula Short, Simone Hamilton, Morgan Aperahama, Dean Shelford, Annie Scott and Bruce Walker. We also had guest appearances for workshops; looking at relaxation techniques with Marion Forbes and a beautiful weaving workshop lead by Hiwinui Mitai. We are very lucky to have such a fantastic team and an amazing skillset of talents to share with our students. The staff particularly enjoyed watching the annual Beach Team Building activity and were delighted with the sportsmanship and spirit shown throughout the entire weekend. The year 13’s have built a foundation on which they can grow as a group. Now it is up to them! We are thankful to all the teaching staff who took time out to have this experience and in particular to Ms Haana Howard for her hard work in effortlessly putting this all together. Well done to all!
________________________________________________________________________ YEAR 10 CAMP – A WINNER AT OKATAINA
On Monday 4th March 72 Year 10 students and 8 staff headed to Okataina for the annual Year 10 camp. Students were treated to beautiful weather in stunning surroundings. The first day was spent down at the lake making rafts, swimming and trying out kayaks, waka ama and stand up paddle boards. Students also spent the first day re-learning the school haka. The second day consisted of a range of different team building activities. Students spent the three days competing in their houses for points towards the house competition. There were four events worth points. The ultimate challenge, raft building, haka and technology challenge. Rotokakahi and Okareka came away with a tied win. The last day involved some cleaning, games and a walk to the waterfall. The students were wonderful and we appreciate the time given up by staff to put on such a successful camp. Miss Kaiaroi, Mrs Kaiaroi, Mrs Hodge, Mr Soloman, Mr Dunn, Ms Smets, Mrs Kelly and Ms Johnson. Not forgetting Ms Beijeman for her outstanding ability to organize the camp. Well done to all!
Yours sincerely
Principal
