APPRENTICESHIP OPPORTUNTIES 2021 Red Stag Timber, Waipa Mill, Rotorua Located 5 minutes south of Rotorua CBD, Red Stag Timber is an industry leader when it comes to producing in excess of 600,000m3 of quality timber products. The Company operates New Zealand’s largest sawmill, and is a well-established and successful business. We have invested heavily over the past 15yrs in modern sawmilling technology. Our annual staff survey confirms a positive workplace culture, including putting the safety of our workers first. We are seeking recent school leavers, who are keen to enter an apprenticeship and start fulltime work and elected learning programme in late January 2021. Red Stag will sponsor a trade qualification to achieve a L4 National Certificate as an industry apprentice, in one the following pathways:    

Mechanical Engineering Timber Machining Finger Jointing Solid Wood Processing

Practical learning on site will involve relevant hands-on work as a paid apprentice, mentored by our experienced Red Stag Timber staff. Apprenticeships generally take up to 3-4 years to complete. Our preferred candidates will have:  A minimum NCEA L2 qualification, including Maths and English.  Excellent communication skills, personal presentation and willingness to follow instructions.  Confident computer and IT skills.  Proven attendance and some awareness of workplace safety.  A strong commitment to good timekeeping and being a reliable team member.  A high level of physical fitness, due to the nature of the work tasks Daily work includes basic entry level duties, which can be repetitive but will teach work ethic, teamwork and knowledge of wood processing, machinery and operations. Shifts are varied, starting on dayshift Mon-Thurs 5.00am – 3.40pm, with transfers to other shifts and rosters if required. As part of the recruitment process, shortlisted candidates will undergo mechanical aptitude and numeracy testing, to support compatibility with the industry qualification requirements. Full pre-employment medical examination and drug screening applies.
