_________________________________________________________________________ READER / WRITER VOLUNTEERS I would like to thank the reader writer volunteers who helped out for junior exams as well as acknowledge those who provide the service for NCEA externals. All up we have had 20 people providing reader writer support including 8 for senior exams and 12 for junior exams. At year 9 level most students only have the opportunity to trial using support for one of the 4 exams and we are very dependent on volunteers to provide this service. It was great to see students using the support well and very encouraging to read the feedback from teachers about the difference this support makes.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH – GOLD TRAINING – 25/26 NOVEMBER 2017 We enjoyed a wonderful weekend of training for the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award in the Karangahake Gorge. Holly Forbes and Amy Wilson from RLHS participated, together with another 6 girls from various schools in the Tauranga region. The weather was warm and fine and we ended the day by going for a swim in the Ohinemuri river (parent helpers included). Many thanks to our OTNZ Trainers, Gerry Purcell and Tania Davies. _____________________________________________________________________________________________
DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARDS Congratulations to Holly Forbes and Amy Wilson, who completed their Gold level training last weekend. This included Outdoor First Aid and River Safety. Thanks so much to Marion Forbes and her husband Bruce, who were invaluable on the weekend. We rely heavily on parental help due to our large numbers of candidates enrolled in the program, over 50 students at this point in time. So many thanks again! Please watch carefully for upcoming training and tramp opportunities as many will be offered in Term One, while the weather is amenable. Try to leave a couple of weekends free in February as a starter! Many congratulations to all the students who have qualified this year, too many to mention! The school is extremely proud of you, and the commitment and achievements you have attained this year. You are exemplary students in our school, and wish you all the best for your summer activities. Please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Carlan-Riddell or Gerry Purcell, if you have any questions over the summer holidays about opportunities available for tramps and trainings.
