New to NCEA? New Zealand's National Certificates of Educational Achievement (NCEA) are national qualifications for senior secondary school students. Students who will be sitting NCEA assessments this year will be issued an information booklet that helps to explain key areas. NZQA also has made a video to help parents understand NCEA. Go to their website ( www.nzqa.govt.nz) and search for "How NCEA works video". There is also a mobile app available (search for "NCEA Mobile app").

_________________________________________________________________________________ MOUNTAIN BIKING Its been a very busy summer for RLHS Mountain Bikers. The two main events were the 2W Gravity Enduro and the Camelbak Summer MTB Cup.

2W Gravity Enduro The sport of Enduro encapsulates everything people love about the sport of mountain biking – off-road adventure, physical challenge, test of skills and tactical nonce, adrenaline fix, combined with fun social riding and competitiveness. Gravity Enduro riders can participate in either a 6 stage or 4 stage event. On the 10th December 2016 Caitlin Dalziel, Daniel Cobb and Skye Follas raced the 6 Stage event. Caitlin placed 2nd in Youth Women and is continuing to build on her success in this genre of racing. Daniel Cobb took part in the highly competitive Youth Male race and placed 9th in his category. Skye Follas raced in the Junior Women category and placed 3rd. The next 2W Gravity Enduro race is on Saturday 11th February.

Nduro Camelbak Summer MTB Cup On the 8th January Hamish Dodd travelled to Palmerston North to compete in the first round of the Summer Cup. It was a very successful day as he placed 1st in the U19 long course (30-40km) and finished 3rd overall. Dylan Walton, Caitlin Dalziel and Ruby Ryan raced the third round held in Rotorua on

5th February. Ruby placed 2nd in the Sprocket category for the mid-course (20-30km) and 4th female over all, proving she is a force to be reckoned with on the trails! Dylan Walton has made a successful come back after injury last year. Dylan placed 7th in the Sprocket category and 13th overall. Caitlin Dalziel has continued to excel in mountain biking and competed in the short course (10-15km) placing 1st in the Junior female category.
