How do I apply for a care home?
<
Moving home is a life changing experience and it’s natural to feel emotional, nervous or anxious. If you or someone you know is interested in applying to an RMBI Home, you should contact the Home’s Management Team and they will make arrangements for you to visit the Home. It’s important to look around the Home, ask questions and speak to staff to agree how the Home will be able to support you. You can also visit our website for more information at www.rmbi.org.uk.
or call Head Office and speak to a member of the Care Team on 020 7596 2400. If you have decided you would like to live at one of our Homes, please contact the Management Team who can send you an application pack. There are a few forms to fill in and if you require support with completing any of them, please contact the Management Team who will be happy to assist you. The forms can also be downloaded online at www.rmbi.org.uk.
What are your eligibility criteria? There are several categories of eligibility and you must meet the criteria for one of the categories to be able to access our services. Our services are available to people with either private or public funding. We recommend that you visit www.payingforcare.org to find out more about your paying for care options as this will be based upon your personal and financial circumstances. In all cases, final agreement as to whether a place at one of
our Homes will be offered will depend on an individual assessment to ensure that we can meet your needs, and how your care will be funded. The minimum age that people can enter an RMBI Home is usually 65, however people under this age may apply and their application will be considered by our Trustees. For more information or advice, please contact RMBI Care Co.’s Head Office on 020 7596 2400 or speak to the Manager at your local Home.

manage at Home and we are struggling to support her. Can RMBI Care Co. help her move into an RMBI Home? A: Yes, we’re here to help. You should either contact your preferred Home directly or call the Care Team on 020 7596 2400. You will be invited for a visit to have a look around and ask any questions. The Home will then conduct a full assessment to ensure that we can meet your partner’s care needs along with a financial assessment, which will determine their weekly fee. The fee covers the person’s care, accommodation, meals and most of the activities and this may change if the person’s needs changes.
for when they move into a care home? Will they have to sell their house? A: When moving into a care home, the Home conducts a full financial and care assessment which will determine the cost of the person’s care. In England, if the person’s assets are currently more than the threshold of £23,250 the local authority will not support his/ her care costs and they will be charged the full cost of their care. If their assets fall below the threshold in the future, the person’s situation can be reassessed but they will need to request this.

If the person’s assets are below the upper threshold of £23,250 but are over the lower limit of £14,250, they will need to contribute £1 for each £250 of assets above the lower level. When the value of your assets falls below £14,250, in most cases the local authority will pay the cost of care. For Wales, the upper threshold is £40,000. (Figures correct as of August 2018)

We encourage people to take independent financial advice for specific situations, especially around the sale of the property as there may be other options available. If the property is to be sold and admission to the Home is required urgently, the Local Authority may arrange a deferred payment option. If this is not an option RMBI Care Co. is able to put a charge on the property until the house is sold. All this will be discussed as part of our admission process. You can find more information and advice at www.payingforcare.org or the Society of Later Life Advisers.
Freemason caring for somebody, or vice versa, to be eligible for an MCF grant for respite care? A: Yes, this is part of the MCF’s eligibility criteria for respite care grants and you should contact the MCF directly to discuss further. The MCF cannot meet the cost of convalescent care.
