Ashley Preston Head Coach Second Season Morgan State ‘08 Coppin State head coach Ashley Preston is making a habit of setting school records. As a player at Morgan State she set the school record for digs in a career, as the head coach at Spelman she guided the team to a school record for wins in Year a season and in her first year at Coppin State she set school 2011 records for overall wins and conference wins in a season. 2012 Coppin State finished the 2012 season with an 11-14 overall record and a 6-6 mark in the MEAC. She also led the Eagles to the MEAC Tournament for the first time since the 2006 season. Preston, who is the 10th coach in Coppin State volleyball history, is in her second stint as a head coach after leading Spelman College to a 9-16 record in 2011, which established a school record for wins in a season. She also served as an assistant coach at Loyola (Md.) and Morgan State. Preston ranks as one of the top players in Morgan State history. She was a three-time First Team All-MEAC selection from 2004-06 and is the Bears all-time leader in digs with 2,066. She also owns the top three marks in Morgan State history for digs in a season. During her tenure the Bears advanced to the MEAC Tournament championship match in 2006. Off the court Preston was equally impressive. A native of Las Vegas, Preston was a three-time recipient of the MEAC Commissioner’s All-Academic Award and garnered Arthur Ashe Scholar’s first team honors as a junior. Following her junior season Preston also earned the Elijah Rowe Award, which goes to the female student-athlete with the highest grade point average at Morgan State. Preston graduated in May of 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications and was honored that summer as Morgan State’s representative for the MEAC Woman of the Year Award. Following her playing career at Morgan State she spent two years as an assistant coach at her alma mater before moving on to an assistant position at Loyola (Md.) where she spent one year.
