WHO’S WHO
THE PERSONALITIES BEHIND BARRETT JACKSON RUSS JACKSON, along with Tom Barrett, founded Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car AuctionsTM, in 1971. Jackson, originally from Michigan, relocated to Scottsdale in 1960 with wife Nellie. Jackson’s passion for classic automobiles, especially of the 1930s, led him to a meeting with Barrett, who was selling a 1933 Cadillac V-16 Town Car built for actress Joan Crawford. The sale never took place, but a love of old cars led to the creation of Fiestas de los Auto Elegantes, later named Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction. Jackson died in 1993 of colon cancer. NELLIE JACKSON co-founded BarrettJackson along with her husband Russ, and Tom Barrett and held an executive position with the company since the doors opened in 1971. Her passion for automobiles and her business acumen were a driving force behind Barrett-Jackson’s evolution into the world’s leading collector car auction company. Nellie, matriarch of the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, served as executive director until her death Feb. 10, 2010. TOM BARRETT, founder of Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction, along with Russ Jackson, launched the first auction in 1971 with vehicles from their private collections. Barrett brought the best and rarest automobiles to the event, earning the reputation of “Grandfather of the Collector Car Industry.” Barrett retired in 1997 and died in 2004. BRIAN JACKSON, son of Russ Jackson, took over the reigns of Barrett-Jackson in 1993, after his father succumbed to cancer. The younger Jackson passed away two years later of the same illness. CRAIG JACKSON, chairman and CEO, assumed control of Barrett-Jackson in 1997. Jackson has shared his family’s passion for automobiles from an early age, learning every aspect of both the collector car and restoration businesses as he climbed the corporate ladder. The result has been numerous Best of Show and First Place trophies, as well as an extensive education on classic car restoration.

while the bidding accelerated to over a half million dollars. Emotions went into overdrive when the car sold for $700,000 to directly benefit those who protect our great nation. “The 2011 Las Vegas auction brought BarrettJackson’s 40th anniversary to close as 60,000 fans witnessed a very diverse offering of vehicles and a demonstration of charitable moments that are a cornerstone of the auction company,” Davis said. “The outpouring of goodwill that we experienced is very gratifying, and the sale of my 1964 Ford Fairlane 500 is a moment that I will always remember.” When the 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR McClaren Convertible entered the staging lanes at the 2010 auction, and audible sigh tinged with just a slight bit of envy could be heard from the spectators. This exotic boasted a 5.4L supercharged V8 with a rocket ship thrust of nearly 700hp. Its silver exterior and Silver
Arrow Red interior with black carbon trim package and racing seat option sailed across the block and sold for $412,500. In 2009 action movie mega-stars Bruce Willis, Don Johnson and Sylvester Stallone took part in the auction either by selling or buying vehicles. Jay Leno also fueled the excitement when he made a special appearance and donated $120,000 from the sale of a Yamaha Star V-Max Motorcycle from his personal collection to Bailey’s Café, an arts education program. But the brightest star of the auction was a 1965 Shelby Cobra CSX2568. This rare Cobra had just received a fresh complete, correct restoration and sold for $440,000. As a company, BarrettJackson’s excitement was palpable leading up to the inaugural Las Vegas event in 2008. The staff worked diligently and put in more than just standard nineto-five days. The team had been working hard setting standards of service and excellence at the April
Palm Beach, Fla., auction for the past ten years, for more than 40 years at the Scottsdale auction event and three years in Orange County. They were revvedup and ready to hit the Strip at redline. When Carroll Shelby’s first racecar was consigned as the cover car for the auction, it could not have been a more perfect tribute to everyone’s hard work and effort. When Carroll Shelby raced this 1949 MG TC roadster, it changed the course of his life and paved the way to his creation of the Shelby Cobra. The racecar sold for $302,000 and garnered the top sales spot at the first-ever Barrett-Jackson auction in Las Vegas. Since 2008 hundredsof cars have crossed the block in the Mandalay Bay Events Center. This year, the fifth anniversary of the Barrett-Jackson auction in Las Vegas will continue the company’s tradition of offering a diverse docket and fueling the passion of the car collector hobby.

uxury collector cars, fabulous parties and a who’s who list at every event. An event that’s in a class by itself, BarrettJackson is widely known for producing “The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions.” But there’s far more to Barrett-Jackson than breathtaking glamour and gleaming paint jobs. Among auction houses, Barrett-Jackson has become a leading force in its philanthropic efforts for charities across the nation. The auction company is on its way to raise a total of $50 million — and has no plans of stepping on the brakes. Already, $48 million has been raised for charitable causes with $22 million since January 2010. BarrettJackson aims to reach the $50 million milestone during the 2013 Scottsdale auction in January. “Philanthropy is a major component of the BarrettJackson culture, and due to the tremendous generosity of our customers, participants and attendees, we look forward to watching this figure grow past $50 million,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO. At every auction, top collectible charity vehicles cross the block during the lifestyle event. BarrettJackson waives all of its fees for charity vehicles, and sale proceeds benefit a wide range of local and national charitable foundations that focus on children, military, medical research and more. Some of the many organizations that have received funds include the Armed Forces Foundation, the Barrett-Jackson Cancer Research Fund at TGen, Austin Hatcher Foundation of Pediatric Cancer,
is supported through the tremendous generosity of its consignors and bidders, who often re-donate their vehicles. At the 10th Annual Palm Beach Auction in April, a 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 was sold for $500,000. The oneof-a-kind 2-door hardtop collector car was immediately re-donated and crossed the block for an astounding $450,000. With additional donations, the vehicle raised over $1 million for Wounded Warriors Family Support, an organization that provides programs and services to severely injured service members to help them transition to civilian life. At the 2011 Las Vegas auction, Barrett-Jackson President Steve Davis donated his personal 1964 THIS RED FAIRLANE SOLD AS A CHARITY CAR FOR $700,000 DURING Ford Fairlane 500 Custom 2 THE 2011 BARRETT-JACKSON AUCTION. door hardtop. ou’ve had your eye on the perfect car. Perhaps she’s the Eleanor of your dreams. She’s the muscle car you had to have in high school. Or maybe the 1957 Chevy you kissed your first girlfriend in. She’s the one. And she’s coming up for sale at the World’s Greatest Collector Car Event. You have to have her. Now what? Tens of thousands of cars have been bought and sold at Barrett-Jackson over four decades, so you’re in the right place. Here are a few tips to ease you into the process and make you feel comfortable with your collector-car bidding experience: 1. DO YOUR HOMEWORK – Research recent selling prices for the make, model and condition of the car you’re coveting. Barrett-Jackson offers a shortcut online at Barrett-Jackson.com, where you can search by make and model and review catalog descriptions of the vehicles sold. 2. HAVE A PLAN – Barrett-Jackson boasts the most exciting automotive environment in the world. Despite the thrill, the smartest Barrett-Jackson buyers have a plan. They know what their budgets are, and the top prices they’re willing to pay. 3. BID WITH CONFIDENCE – Register online or onsite to be a bidder at Barrett-Jackson. Once you meet the criteria and earn your bidders passes, settle into the main auction tent. Find a seat and get familiar with the bidding assistant covering your area. You communicate directly with these assistants who accept your bid and relay it to the main auctioneer. 4. YOU WON! You’re the winning bidder of your dream car. Head back over to the bidding department to pay for your car. A few signatures later, and she’s officially yours. 5. TAKE CARE OF HER – First thing you need to do is insure your new gem, and Barrett-Jackson offers Barrett-Jackson-endorsed insurance. If you choose to go elsewhere, make sure the policy is specific to a collector car so she’s protected.

his year marks the five-year anniversary of the Barrett-Jackson collector car auction in action-packed Las Vegas. Since the inaugural event in 2008, the collector car market and hobby have experienced quite a ride with the economic downturn, but the Barrett-Jackson auctions have remained the “bellwether of the collector car market,” leading the way with strong prices and substantial attendance at all four of its auctions across the country. “Results from the Las Vegas auction consistently demonstrate that the collector car market is incredibly strong within all segments of the hobby,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO, Barrett-Jackson. “In addition to the impressive sales numbers, BarrettJackson continues to lead as the collector car auction for all audiences with compelling charitable moments, celebrity appearances and activities for everyone — all under the neon glow of the Las Vegas Strip at the beautiful Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.” During the past four auctions, many exceptional and diverse vehicles have crossed the block in Las Vegas. 2011 was exceptionally memorable when Barrett-Jackson President Steve Davis’ 1964 Ford Fairlane crossed the block to benefit the Armed Forces Foundation. Throughout the audience, and the auction block, bidders and fans alike waved hundreds of miniature American flags

he collector car insurance arena is crowded with a number of well-known providers. The team at Barrett-Jackson understood that if they were to endorse an insurance program, it would have to stand out with exceptional customer service and a suite of coverage that is not offered elsewhere. In 2009, BarrettJackson endorsed a revolutionary program with two partners: Chartis, the underlying insurance provider, and TDC Risk Management, the independent agency that services the program and can find additional solutions as needed. In endorsing this insurance program for its customers, Barrett-Jackson appears to have hit the mark. Several large-scale collectors who are now Barrett-Jackson endorsed Insurance policyholders were interviewed to obtain their candid feedback on the insurance program. The consensus is that they are enthusiastic about the exceptional customer service, prompt response to claims and the depth of coverage provided. For example, one of these policyholders from Des Moines, Wash., recently experienced damage to both his vintage Ferrari and his

Roadside assistance can be a costly option — if your insurance company even offers it. Several policyholders were pleasantly surprised to find that the BarrettJackson endorsed Insurance program includes roadside assistance at no additional charge. This feature provides added security when touring with your collection or out cruising for a weekend spin. Steve Van Houton of Rapid City, S.D., mentioned several times during an interview that he was 100 percent happy with his decision to switch to Barrett-Jackson endorsed Insurance. He said he was involved in an accident with his Model A that was not his fault, so the other person’s insurance policy was responsible for the Model A’s repairs. Although his policy did not have to
respond in this situation, Van Houton’s agent from TDC Risk Management was involved every step of the way. Van Houton commented, “I was not used to being treated this well by an insurance company.” The BarrettJackson endorsed Insurance program also features coverage for repairs with original manufacturers’ parts, choice of repair facility and the use of a comparable vehicle during the repair or replacement process. The common theme of all the policyholders’ interviews was the exceptional individual service that is the norm. For more than a decade, the Private Client Group at Chartis has far exceeded its customers’ expectations at claim time. For example, when a rare Ferrari suffered extensive damage, Chartis took steps to ensure that it was properly restored, sending it back to Modena for reconstruction. An additional benefit of the Barrett-Jackson endorsed Insurance program that many find beneficial is the ability of TDC Risk Management to handle not
only their car insurance needs, but also all of their personal insurance requirements. As independent insurance agents, they have access to insurance protection for personal liability, watercraft, homes, fine art and more. TDC’s seasoned advisors can serve as personal insurance consultants for virtually all needs. To find out more about the Barrett-Jackson endorsed Insurance program and the benefits that are available to those with significant collections, visit Barrett-Jackson. com/insurance or call 1-877-545-BJAC.
