Ranch Association Board of Directors 2024 Election This year’s election for the Ranch Association Board of Directors begins Feb. 1. Elaine Cottey and Greg Kiraly’s terms

are ending which opens two positions on the Board, each a threeyear term. Candidate applications are available on DCRanch.com and the deadline to apply is March 1.

The important role of the Ranch Association Board of Directors cannot be overstated. This volunteer group oversees the general administration and management of the community’s policies and standards, annual budgeting, and helps decide how to lead the DC Ranch community into the future. Residents are urged to apply and be a part of the decision-making process for the Ranch Association and community.

Neighborhood Voting Members (NVMs) will cast their votes for the two positions. Please participate by reading the candidate biographies, attending the Meet the Candidates Night and letting your NVM know your Board director recommendations.

Short-term rentals in DC Ranch Arizona is the place to be during this busy time of year!

As a reminder, the Standards for Conduct for Short-Term Rentals (DCR-18) requires that any rental of property in DC Ranch be for a minimum of 6 months, with only 2 rentals allowed during a calendar year. Rental and lease terms shorter than 6 months are strictly prohibited. Residents who conduct rentals that violate terms of DCR-18 are subject to fines. DC Ranch staff routinely monitors short-term rental websites to ensure compliance. If you have any questions or would like to report a short-term rental that violates the DC Ranch Standards of Conduct, please contact The Ranch Offices on Market Street at 480.513.1500.

Please remember to follow proper pet etiquette when enjoying the community parks and the path and trail system. Dogs must be leashed and under physical control at all times. Please be considerate of neighbors who may have an allergy or an apprehension toward dogs. Per the City of Scottsdale ordinance and DC Ranch Standards for Conduct (DCR-13 & 14), dogs should always be leashed and pet waste picked up and deposited in a refuse container. Dogs are only permitted to be unleashed when confined to an enclosure, such as a dog run, or on an owner’s property. Violators are subject to fines.

Arabian Horse Show returns Feb. 15-25

Since 1955 the Annual Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show has set the pace in the Arabian horse world.

After the show’s beginnings at the Arizona Biltmore, Ann McCormick bought 150 acres in Scottsdale and made it into the horse facility known as Paradise Park which served the needs of the show for many years. Since then, the show has been held at WestWorld bringing top owners, trainers and breeders from around the world.

The Arabian Horse Association of Arizona (AHAA) is excited to announce the return of the 69th annual Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show from Thursday, Feb. 15 through Sunday, Feb. 25 featuring the world’s best Arabians, exciting competitions, a shopping expo and more.

“We’re thrilled to invite unique, beautiful horses from all over the world to join us in Scottsdale for the 69th year,” said Melissa Schalles, executive director of the AHAA. “If you’re curious about Arabians or know nothing about them, this is the perfect show for you—there’s something for everyone here.”

The 2024 show will feature over 2,100 horses who will compete for more than 3 million in prize money. Event goers can look forward to a huge variety of classes where Arabians will show their versatility, beauty, and grace.

The immersive experience will return this year, giving attendees a hands-on experience to learn, touch and ride, hosted by HoofbeatZ USA, a Phoenixbased organization. The interactive experience, included in the event ticket, introduces newcomers to the world of horses and all the benefits they offer.

Along with the engaging performances, event attendees will have the opportunity to see exhibits featuring fine art, crafts, clothing, and jewelry in the Shopping Expo adjacent to the main arena. More than 300 artisans and entrepreneurs are expected to sell unique goods and offer a wide variety of products and services.

The AHAA will also be celebrating the third annual National Arabian Horse Day on February 19 with special events and activities at the show.

The 11-day show will start at 8 a.m. each day at WestWorld located at 16601 N. Pima Road in Scottsdale. General admission tickets cost $15, tickets for seniors are $10, while children aged 12 and under are free. Military Appreciation Day is Tuesday, Feb. 20 when military personnel and their families can attend for free. A family night will be held on Friday, Feb. 24, giving families free admission beginning at 4:30 p.m. A special general admission ticket good for all 11 days can be purchased for $75. Tickets are available each day at the gate or on scottsdaleshow.com/tickets.

(WMPO) is known as the “Greatest Show on Grass.” In addition to playing host to the greatest players in the game, the tournament is the PGA TOUR’s best-attended event, which draws over 500,000 enthusiastic spectators each year. As one of the first events on the PGA TOUR calendar, The WM Phoenix Open kicks off the year with a bang. Unlike any other tournament in the world, spectators become central to the event, transforming the famous 16th hole into “The Coliseum”—and the loudest hole in golf.

This week-long event takes place Feb. 5-11 at TPC Scottsdale, 17020 N. Hayden Road.

DC Ranch Fitness Program through the years

Originating from a deep-seated dedication to quality of life, as well as

a collective commitment to nurturing a healthier community, fitness classes at DC Ranch have undergone a significant evolution since their inception in the early 2000s. What began in a small room with a handful of enthusiastic residents at Desert Camp Community Center has evolved into a thriving fitness program at The Homestead Community “Each time someone Center.

It just always feels welcoming and has great energy. I was recovering from an injury when I first came to DC Ranch. Once healing made it possible to seek out a class, I observed Strength & Balance and knew that I could make the proper modifications to meet my limitations. Heather, the instructor, was incredibly welcoming and helped me create my own program within her class.”

Playing a vital role in the well-being of the community, the carefully curated group fitness and Health & Wellness classes have not only become a catalyst for friendships and support networks but have also contributed to the physical health of participants. Chapman continues, “So many of these students are there every week, getting stronger, working on balance, breath and form.

I like to challenge the students to do more but offering the option to find their own path and grow at their own pace. We like to laugh, and I keep the mood light and playful, creating a safe environment for students to make mistakes and learn.”

When asked what legacy Chapman wishes to leave with DC Ranch, she said: “Helping students feel better in their bodies and helping them develop tools that can help find peace. Our lives are busy and stressful, my classes teach students how to slow down, breathe, connect and enjoy the present moment. I love making an impact and I especially love working with such a wonderful, supportive community.”

The journey of the fitness studio has been closely intertwined with the growth and development of DC Ranch. Currently, the community embarks on a master plan project aimed at enhancing various aspects of community life, including recreation facilities at Desert Camp Community Center. As a part of this visionary plan, fitness classes are slated to move to a dedicated fitness studio when Desert Camp re-opens.

This upcoming move represents the culmination of years of hard work, dedication and community support. The new fitness studio, purpose-built and designed to meet the evolving needs of residents, symbolizes a commitment to the ongoing health and wellness of the community. As fitness programs prepare to step into their new home, they carry with them the legacy of fostering a healthier, more connected community.

In 2025, Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts will celebrate its 50th anniversary. And for

almost as many years, one artist has been a perennial performer at the center: Jeffrey Siegel.

Keyboard Conversations celebrates 45 years

This marks Siegel’s 45th season presenting his signature Keyboard Conversations at the center. The talented pianist offers deeply researched, effortlessly engaging and occasionally humorous commentary.

“One of the highlights for me in doing the series at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts is the Q and A that concludes the program, in which the audience is encouraged to ask whatever questions they might wish to ask,” Siegel said. “One night a boy of 10 or 11 spoke up and asked, ‘How many hours a day did Beethoven have to practice?’ and this brought down the house!”

Siegel, whose commentaries have been favorably compared to the revolutionary on-stage talks of his one-time acquaintance Leonard Bernstein, started Keyboard Conversations 55 years ago at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. They were presented there by the late Dayton Grafman, who eventually

Siegel noted that in a predominantly digital age, the music of great composers offers a nourishing, deeply affecting experience that is necessary now more than ever. He said he is often touched to see an audience of all ages at his shows, including novices who might be attending their first classical music concerts.
