Christine Ehrich, CEO
“
We created a performancebased model with metrics that saves companies 30 to 40 percent off their health care costs by getting employees back to work quickly and safely”.
MARK LIPCZYNSKI
Company: Industrial Solutions Network
At first meeting, Christine Ehrich can appear to be subdued and somewhat pensive. She says that when people get to know her, they find an incredibly driven and entrepreneurial spirit hiding beneath that seemingly calm demeanor. “I might seem quiet because I absorb what is being said; I really listen,” says Ehrich. She explains when you are truly listening to the needs people are expressing, it allows you to see areas where there might be answers. Industrial Solutions Network fills needs on many levels. The firm’s innovative approach to rehabbing injured workers benefits the corporate clients, the small business clinics in the network and the employees who receive quality care. As to why this industry, she says, “I like a lot of purpose in my life. I’ve always gravitated to health care because you can see that you make a difference in people’s lives.” The seeds of her company began when Ehrich left marketing at HealthSouth and was taking courses to become a physical therapist. Using her health care knowledge, she was consulting for a rehab clinic that wanted to attract more workers’ comp business.
“I started talking to employers and listening to their needs and one of them was that they needed Valleywide coverage. [Just] one clinic wasn’t going to work so I had the idea of a network of clinics specialized to workmen’s comp.” She explains that typically a patient goes to a therapy professional with about eight sites in town. The Industrial Solutions Network has 160 in Arizona and recently expanded into Colorado and Nevada. But the effective, function-targeted rehab and costs savings result from more than just numerous locations. “We created a performance-based model with metrics that saves companies 30 to 40 percent off their health care costs by getting employees back to work quickly and safely,” says Ehrich. “We do outcome reports so companies can see the number of visits patients average as well as cost savings.” Using efficiency data and customer satisfaction feedback, the clinics also receive report cards so they can see what is working well and where they can improve or expand. Ehrich says her company’s next step is to pilot a program for personal injury rehab. – Joan Westlake

Trish Gulbranson, President and CEO Company: Derma Health Institute
Trish Gulbranson’s steady, professional persona serves as the eye of the storm of success that her company Derma Health has been rising in over the past few years. For the second year in a row, the company made the Inc. 5000 List of America’s Fastest Growing Companies, moving up to number 28 in the Phoenix area. Last year, Derma Health added a West Valley clinic and corporate headquarters in Tempe. “It takes a lot of effort to make fast growth look effortless,” says Gulbranson. “The hardest part is all the work behind the scenes to keep service levels up while everything is growing. We spend a lot of time setting goals, training and educating staff.” Derma Health is a physician-based medical center with five locations in the Phoenix metro area. A leader in the field of aesthetic technology, the firm specializes in non-invasive and minimally invasive laser and aesthetic treatments. The business boasts a nearly all female staff. Sometimes her employees say that even though she’s very approachable, it can be difficult to read what’s going on behind that composed, congenial exterior. Make no mistake. Gulbranson
is passionately on a mission to make a positive difference in women’s lives. Leaving a successful software firm, she began looking at trends in one of her fields of interest, women’s health and fitness. “I was reading some of Suzanne Sommers’ books and learning about naturopathic doctors. It got me interested in anti-aging,” she says. Gulbranson credits her father with teaching her the business processes with which she fine-tunes her company. She adds that one reason she feels compelled to give back to women is that she had a great one as a mentor at the software firm. Still, it takes guts and vision to start and grow a business in a tough economy. She bumped up her advertising when others were cancelling theirs and kept planning as though a great idea and solid practice could prevail over a sinking environment. As she says, “It worked.” Gulbranson points out that when she needs to let loose and let go of that professional aura, she turns to her South Dakota farm girl roots and finds freedom on a horse. Only now, it’s a Harley, the city girl’s iron horse.

AZCR Staffing Inc.: Providing Temporary and Skilled Employees for Residential and Commercial Building Projects By Helping People Get Work, the Phoenix-Based Company is Having a Positive Impact on the Local Economy By Alison Stanton Since the day it opened for business in 2006, AZCR Staffing Inc., formerly known as AZ Construction Resources Inc., has strived to provide residential and commercial contractors with highly skilled and trained employees who can help them on their various building projects. As a staffing agency that specializes in skilled trades and labor, AZCR Staffing Inc. provides these services to the construction industry, as well as to the field of solar power, and the manufacturing. “We provide jobs to many different tradesmen including electricians, plumbers, HVAC, assembly, and solar installers, just to name a few,” said Jennifer Paul, account manager at the Phoenixbased company. AZCR Staffing Inc. is privately owned and operated by Naidu Vos, who has over 15 years of experience in the staffing industry. Naidu is committed to offering her clients outstanding customer service, and has already helped successfully staff some of the major construction companies both in Arizona and throughout the country. About 16 people work in the Phoenix corporate location, Naidu noted, and 300-plus temporary employees work at the various job sites. According to information on the company’s user-friendly website, there are many reasons that companies choose to work with AZCR Staffing Inc. For example, if a construction company has had an unexpected increase in business, the owners AR-0007876523-01
may wish to hire extra employees to help get the extra projects completed on time. This service may be especially useful during the busy building seasons that take place each year. In addition, AZCR Staffing Inc. can help provide staffing for periods of time when regular employees will be on vacation. “Our goal is to provide our clients with the best people that are out there as well as helping and finding employment for people that are unemployed,” Jennifer said, adding that the company offers people direct placement as well as temp-to-permanent opportunities. “We also customize our business to fit our clients’ needs. We are flexible and are willing to do what it takes to get the job done.” As a hands on company that really takes the time to identify the needs of its clients and determine what will be the best staffing options for them, Naidu said AZCR Staffing Inc. prides itself on being a company that offers innovative staffing solutions. AZCR Staffing Inc. is located at 2601 W Dunlap Ave., Ste 4, in Phoenix. For more information, please call 602-870-3515 or visit www.azcrstaffing.com 2601 W. Bonnie Lucas, President Company: Law Enforcement Specialists Inc.
Bonnie Lucas gingerly shrugs her shoulder recovering from recent surgery and comments that it is hard to understand why she receives awards for giving when everyone should be doing it. “If someone is down, pick them up. I can’t imagine being happy if I wasn’t giving,” she says. Receiving the Arizona Public Service 2012 Supplier Diversity Excellence Award for Community Involvement, her company, Law Enforcement Specialists, is renown for giving. Charity runs the gamut from collecting blankets during the holidays for the Sojourner Center to serving food at St. Vincent de Paul. Lucas started Law Enforcement Specialists to be able to be involved in her children’s lives by running a business from home, just as her parents had done. Until they retired, they had a television repair shop on Camelback and lived in the back. For nine years, Lucas ran a successful pest control company but business boomed so much that she sold it because with two small babies, it was too much. An acquaintance in the sheriff’s department mentioned that there was need for someone to coordinate off-duty, armed police officers for security and traffic control. With years of

scheduling experience, she researched the licenses it would take, put out a flier for officers and contacted businesses. Today she provides officers from law enforcement branches around the state for special events and businesses such as APS and Salt River Project. Because “times are tough and they make so little for putting their lives on the line,” Lucas pays her officers to provide pro-bono security work for organizations such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Lion’s Club, and Boys and Girls Club. Her employees also give by participating in the Susan G. Komen cancer walks and volunteering at a golf tournament fundraiser for St. Mary’s Food Bank. “They’ve chosen a career to protect and to serve,” she says. “They have giving hearts, too.” One of the most touching acts of caring involved holding events to raise $10,000 for a single mother who was dying of cancer. Lucas eased her passing with the funds and promising that the woman’s son would complete his education in the private school that saved him from a struggling social and academic situation.

Company: Chas Roberts Air Conditioning & Heating
As CEO of Chas Roberts Air Conditioning & Heating since 1999, Sissie Roberts Shank sits at the helm of the largest air conditioning and heating provider in the state. While celebrating its 70th anniversary, the granddaughter of founders Chas and Alice Roberts continues the family legacy of quality and integrity. “This is on my watch, now. I have an obligation to succeed and make this company viable to pass along to the next generation,” she says. Shank admits her 6-foot-plus father Chuck’s shoes were daunting to fill, especially in an industry known for still being a man’s world. But, she says the Chas Roberts team has always respected and stood by her, making her and the company better. Friends share that while Shank can host a stellar gathering for a thousand and dine in five star restaurants, she’s just as likely to be working down in the trenches, content with a bag of pretzels and a soda. She is admired for being a successful executive, wife, mother and loyal friend. Humble in her success, she is quick to credit employees, some

with the firm more than 30 years. “My family was always very down to earth,” she says. “We didn’t have a big ol’ house. I got it when it came to the family work ethic – You are never too good to do what it takes to get the job done.” She laughs when she tells the story of her grandfather’s rescue from a dumpster being carted away. He explained he wanted to see what the company was throwing away because it was an indication of how well they think they were doing. To this day, the company recycles scrap paper for notes. Shank is the CEO but the top dog at the firm is Sam, the Gabriel’s Angels canine that accompanies her to work as well as to women’s shelters and other places where pet therapy brings comfort. Also, she continues the family tradition of giving by awarding new air conditioning systems to needy families, installing air conditioning units for Habitat You are never too good for Humanity and donating significant funds and to do what it takes to thousands of employee hours to local and national get the job done.” charities.
