Galleries

Few communities have a more fabulous precedent for the continued creation and prospering of an art industry than Sedona. Its role as a small-town arts Mecca stems from two landmark events in its history, the first being the establishment of the Sedona Arts Center (SAC), which showcases the work of promising local artists and educates new ones. The second was the creation of Cowboy Artists of America (CAA), founded in 1965 in a back booth of what is now the Cowboy Club, by Western art legends Charlie Dye, John Hampton and Joe Beeler. SAC and CAA, not to mention Sedona’s awe- and art-inspiring scenery, have long served as anchors for the arts, and have given life to some of Sedona’s most popular annual events, including the Sedona Arts Festival and the Plein Air Festival. More important than the past is the future. Among Sedona’s current artists are many who are, or definitely will be legendary. In fact, this small city, which not too long ago had 300 residents, now boasts more than 300 artists. It’s been estimated that Sedona’s art industry brings hundreds of thousands of dollars per day to the local economy.
