On August 23rd our son, Noah, was
having a summer party before school started. They had been swimming and playing in the yard when they decided to take out the RTV. Moments later, the RTV tipped over with two of our sons on it. Our youngest son Jack, who is 10, escaped with only a broken collar bone, however our 14-year-old was a different story, he took the brunt of the accident. We rushed down to the scene where we found Noah in shock. We immediately called 911 and about 20 minutes later, an ambulance and helicopter arrived. Noah was whisked off in the helicopter headed to Cox South and when we arrived an hour later, they gave us the report. Noah had 5 broken ribs, both bones in his right arm were broken, his right shoulder was broken, one lung was collapsed, the other lung was punctured, he had a broken collar bone, a broken eye socket, a broken jaw bone, 2 skull fractures and was on a ventilator. We had to wait 24 hours for the swelling to go down before they could give us any more news. Then, after 2 long days, he started to turn the corner and was improving already. Altogether, we spent 5 nights in the ICU and 3 nights in Pediatrics. We stayed with Noah the first 2 nights, then we received information about staying at the Ronald McDonald House where we spent the next 6 nights. The room at the Ronald McDonald House was just what we needed. It was so quiet and relaxing, we could come and go as we wanted and there was a hot meal and snacks every night. Thank you to the Ronald McDonald House for their great staff and superb hospitality. They made a huge difference in a very difficult time.
