I was 24 weeks pregnant with fraternal twins
when I was air lifted to the hospital due to complications. I was placed on bedrest and kept at the hospital until time to give birth. After six weeks of bedrest, I had another complication and the decision was made to deliver the twins. At 30 weeks’ gestation and only 3lbs. each, we were looking at a lengthy stay in the NICU. I lived two hours away and wasn’t sure where I would stay. Then a few volunteers from RMH told me all about the services they could provide. Once I was discharged, I went straight to RMH where I was greeted by the very friendly staff. The moment I walked through the doors, I felt right at home, and the best part was that it was right across the road from the NICU. I was doing this all on my own, as my husband had passed away when I was 16 weeks pregnant. However, RMH offered the comfort I needed of always having someone to talk to. The staff made a point of checking in and seeing how things were going. They went above and beyond with a few things that I needed. God had really blessed me with this House and the people in it, including the amazing, kind-hearted volunteers who cooked dinner for us every night. Without the help from RMH, it also would have been hard for me to see my other children. They were able to stay with me on the weekends and there were all kinds of things for them to do. They loved the family room where we could color, play games, and watch movies. They felt so at home being there. I am forever grateful for the Ronald McDonald House, and I don’t know what I would have done without them. Words cannot express how blessed I was to have these wonderful people do so much for me in my time of need. I hope one day that I can give back in the same way.
