Matthew Gene was born and transferred to the NICU at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO. He spent a total of two weeks there until his lungs were strong enough to keep his oxygen levels up. During this time, we wanted to spend as much time with him as possible. However, making the trip from home to the hospital and back each day would not have been possible, and due to restrictions in place for the COVID-19 pandemic, we could only enter the NICU once per day. Then the social worker gave us information about the Ronald McDonald House. Since the House was currently closed to families during this time due to COVID-19, the Ronald McDonald House booked a hotel room for us near the hospital so we could still be close to Matthew for the first week. During our second week, the House re- opened and we were given a room to stay there. Everyone was so nice. and it was such a relief for our family to have a room close to Matthew where we could relax without the stress of finding or paying for a place to stay. We are grateful for their help.
