May 13th 2019,
we received the wonderful news we were going to be first time parents. Our world stopped, we had prayed for years and it was finally happening. The first checkup went well, our baby was healthy and we had nothing to worry about. After a few more checkups, the doctors team noticed an abnormal condition. That day my wife was diagnosed with Placenta Previa at 5 months, a rare condition that less than 1% of pregnancies experience. We were shocked and scared, but ready to do what was needed to have a healthy little girl. At 6 months, things turned for the worse, and the doctors said her Previa had turned into Placenta Accreta, which is even more rare. From our understanding the entire hospital had only seen 4 cases of this in the last 4 years. My wife was on bedrest from the 6th month mark moving forward and on December 16th, per our doctor’s recommendations, we were admitted to the hospital where we would stay until delivery. The staff became family as we spent all day together, and this team kept our spirits high even on our saddest days. Then on December 28th, our fears became real, my wife had a small hemorrhage. The doctors rushed in to help as we were preparing for emergency delivery and an emergency hysterectomy. At that moment my wife and I started to speak the Lord’s Prayer, with a drop of holy water on her head, she accepted Jesus into her life again. Nurses rolled her down the hall, we said our see you soons. The doctors knew it would take 3-4 hours to complete the surgery, but 45 minutes later Dr. Ting came out to congratulate me on a perfectly healthy little girl, and something miraculous happened...the placenta released perfectly, and my wife would not need a hysterectomy at the age of 32. For the next 28 days, our daughter lived in the NICU. Leading up to this point we were living hour by hour and had not planned where we would go after the delivery. Then our nursing team mentioned the Ronald McDonald House. The minute I checked into RMH I knew it was a special place. The care their team extended our family over the next month was beyond our expectations. We had a safe place to lay our head after spending all day at the hospital. We came home to a cooked meal, warm bed, and most of all a friendly smile from the staff. This House and team of people restored our faith in humanity; giving and caring for all families was their number one mission. Their kindness changed mine and my wife’s lives forever, and we are forever grateful to the Ronald McDonald House. Our family needed peace, healing, and hope; and the Ronald McDonald House is where we found it.
