Twenty-seven weeks
into my pregnancy, I learned my baby was not getting the nutrients he needed because the umbilical cord was not attached to the placenta correctly. I was placed on bed rest for the remainder of my pregnancy; but a week later, my little miracle was born prematurely at twenty-eight weeks and taken to the NICU. During this time, traveling an hour back and forth from home would have been nearly impossible. Being able to stay at the Ronald McDonald House allowed me to be with my baby at every touch time. The staff was always caring and helpful, and I particularly enjoyed being able to talk with volunteers, families and staff members during dinner each night. They helped me feel comfortable and provided everything I needed for my stay. My stay at Ronald McDonald House included two holidays, and they always had the House decorated so nicely. It isn’t easy being away from family over the holidays, but knowing that someone understood what I was going through helped keep a smile on my face. The Ronald McDonald House truly felt like my “home-away-from-home.” Now, my son Grayson is ten months old and as healthy as ever.
