On June 1, 2018, we got the call. Our son had fallen off a 45-foot cliff while hiking with his friends and was being air lifted to the hospital. It was a long, terrible night as we made the over an hour drive to the hospital and waited to hear what was going to happen. Thanks to the Lord, our son’s life was spared! He would need many surgeries and it would be a long road to recovery, but he was going to be okay! He would eventually be able to walk again, no paralysis! We poured out our thanks to the Lord. We knew we needed to stay close to the hospital throughout all the coming days of surgeries, healing, and monitoring. This seemed impossible though, due to the distance our house was from the hospital and the alternative of finding lodging in the area was an equal impossibility due to the expense. What a blessing to find out that the Ronald McDonald House would provide us with a comfortable room, which, was more than we could ask for after spending multiple nights trying to catch a few hours of sleep on the hospital waiting room couches. We were constantly blessed by the warm dinners every night, as well as the general home-like atmosphere they created there. The staff at the Ronald McDonald House was so kind and thoughtful, always meeting us with a smile and even having gifts waiting for us at our door! During our stay there, our 10-year-old son had his birthday and they were so gracious and gave him many personal gifts as well! We were blown away by their thoughtfulness! All of the staff members were genuinely concerned with each family there and asked us how our son was doing all the time. When our son was finally able to come home for rehab, we were overjoyed. We left the Ronald McDonald House with new friendships and many good memories. We feel so blessed to have been able to be with our son during this emotionally draining season of our lives in a beautiful ‘home-away-from-home’. We cannot thank the Ronald McDonald House enough!
