Sneakers Unlimited Apple Chase Sponsor, Thank You for taking interest in supporting the newly resurrected Sneakers Unlimited Apple Chase 5K/10K. The Apple Chase vanished from the racing scene back in 2005 and will now we brought back with a rejuvenated set of directives. The event will be run to support both the Critical Care Nurses through the Chilton Memorial Hospital Foundation , the Family & Friend for Freedom Fund and the Passaic County Runners’ Club. The Family & Friend for Freedom Fund has moved their 5K event from Mountain Lakes where they ran a 5K fundraiser under the guise of the Wounded Hero’s Run. With your support we believe we can bring this event back as a “staple” within the Morris/Passaic County running communities. We also believe we will be able to assist both benefactors in providing support to those in need. Enclosed you will find a list of the current sponsorship levels for this year’s event. We have created eight (8) levels to accommodate a sponsor's ability to support this event so please review each one carefully prior to making your commitment. Your monetary/in‐kind donation is appreciated. While you review each option please note/consider the following: Donations at each level can be made monetarily, in‐kind or through a combination of both means. Donations in‐kind are based on the aggregate retail value of the donation. In‐kind donations may be used to help facilitate a monetary return through the use of EBAY's Mission Fish. In‐kind donations can be provided in support of either beneficiary. Just write the benefactor name on your check. In‐kind contributions could be practical (ice scraper/gloves/hat/sneaker), valuable (gift card/vouchers/coupons) or edible (individually wrapped or freshly prepared break items/snacks/drinks/bars). “( )” are examples. Monetary donations are preferred as they need not be converted and can be applied directly to the programs being supported. This is the Apple Chase’s 17th Running, and the events resurgence has been brought back by Sneakers Unlimited of Pompton Plains, NJ. John Coscia, its owner has been supporting & sponsoring dozens of local running events for the past 10+ years. He is very passionate to support the local organizations that continue to support his efforts. To that end he is excited to take the lead in raising the needed funds to better support the beneficiaries of this year’s Apple Chase.
If you plan on being present at the event please let us know and we will ensure you have the appropriate space/power to support the event. Please advise prior to March 11th. There are also opportunities to “volunteer” and assist at the event pre/post race so please let us know if there is any particular activity within the series that you feel compassionate in supporting. A word on our beneficiaries: The Chilton Memorial Hospital Foundation is a 501(c)(3) fund‐raising organization for Chilton Memorial Hospital. The Foundation's philanthropic efforts provide vital funding for programs, construction, renovation and modernization of facilities, and the purchase of state‐of‐the‐art technology. The volunteer Board of Trustees actively participate in and direct activities of the Foundation as well as oversee endowed gifts, the charitable gift annuity fund, and the transfer of funds to the hospital. As U.S. hospital profit margins continue to be challenged, philanthropic support is a direct reflection of the importance our community places on healthcare that is close to home. The Family & Friends For Freedom Fund, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organized to provide financial aid to injured marines and their families, as well as post traumatic stress disorder cases from war, and all branches of the U.S Military as the need arises. Our severely wounded Marines continue to fight battles here at home with their struggle to adjust to their injuries. Our mission is to provide financial support to injured Marines while they continue their long road to recovery. The Passaic County Runners’ Club (PCRC) is a non‐profit 501(c)(3) public benefit corporation which leverages the running fabric to develop a social outlet in which to impact not just the individual but his/her community by knitting together those special events in each of our lives that bring us together. We welcome your support and look forward to seeing you at the 17th Running of the Sneakers Unlimited Apple Chase on Sunday, March 27th.. Warmest Regards John Coscia Sneakers Unlimited
Family and Friends For Freedom Fund, Inc. 501©3 #20‐2173511 SUPPORT OUR TROOPS Mission Statement Our mission is to raise funds for Injured Marines and their families. Our severely wounded Marines continue to fight battles here at home with their struggle to adjust to their injuries. Our mission is to provide financial support to injured Marines while they continue their long road to recovery. As stated in our Bi‐laws, Family & Friends For Freedom Fund, Inc. is organized exclusively for charitable purposes to provide financial aid to injured marines and their families, as well as post traumatic stress disorder cases from war, and all branches of the U.S Military as the need arises. Our Hero On September 22, 2004 SSGT James Sturla a Marine in our family was severely injured just eight days after deploying to Iraq. His tank was hit by an RPG that ripped through the tank’s hatch nearly severing his left arm and de‐gloving his right hand. His recovery included more that 20 surgeries and painful physical therapy that got him back to where he was able to re‐deploy to Iraq almost exactly two years to the day. During his stay in National Naval Hospital, Bethesda, MD. his parents left their jobs and spent weeks on end at his bedside. Jim’s wife never left his side.
Another one of our area HEROES that has been helped is: Sgt Eddie Ryan, from Ellenville, NY was 21 years old when injured on April13, 2005. He was shot twice in the head and suffered traumatic brain injury. We have journeyed with Eddie and his family on his road to recovery. We first met him at Helen Hayes Hospital, at that time it was difficult for him to communicate or connect with his family. Today Eddie is still bedridden cared for by his parents. They had to renovate their home to accommodate Eddie’s wheel Chair and the hospital bed. Their struggle is on going since the VA does not cover all of the Physical Therapy treatment that he requires. The donations that we have given Eddie help but it is only a fraction of the costs that they still need. Sgt Eddie Ryan’s story is not an isolated case there are many injured that have sustained life changing injuries and they need our support through out their lives. The Cause The burden on families when their loved one has been wounded is all but forgotten. Mortgages still must be paid; groceries must be purchased; and travel expenses to see their hero are daunting. Our organization wad founded by members of Jim’s family along with close friends to assist wounded and their families during their long road to recovery. We felt that we had to help not only “Our Marine” but all of the other military families that find themselves in this life changing circumstances.

In this economic downturn, we are all going through financial hardships and struggles. Every one of us has been affected. The men and women of our armed services are no different with the exception of still being on the front lines sacrificing themselves to protect us. We have all seen those words on a window or bumper sticker. Have you ever asked yourself how you could help? Family and Friends For Freedom Fund has assisted over 280 families nationwide through raising in excess of $500,000. We are asking businesses and organizations to become sponsors. We would like to invite your company to be a part of this event. We have a number of sponsorship opportunities with numerous levels of recognition. April 14, 2010 Mr. Ross Mistretta Passaic County Runners’ Club (dba PCRC) 96 Carol Place Wayne, NJ 07470 Dear Ross, Passaic County Runners’ Club (dba PCRC) #2650 (EIN: 27-1539415) is a 501(c)3 organization through the Road Runners Club of America group exemption status with the IRS. Below are two important excerpts from the http://ftp.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p4573.pdf that clearly outlines the procedure for group exemption letters and verifying subordinate organizations under the group exemption ruling: 1. What is a group exemption letter? The IRS sometimes recognizes a group of organizations as tax exempt if they are affiliated with a central organization. This avoids the need for each of the organizations to apply for the exemption individually. A group exemption letter has the same effect as an individual exemption letter except that it applies to more than one organization. Please see the accompanying copy of the RRCA’s group exemption letter from the IRS. 2. How do I verify that an organization is included as a subordinate in a group exemption ruling? The central organization that holds a group exemption (rather than the IRS) determines which organizations are included as subordinates under its group exemption ruling. Therefore, you can verify that an organization is a subordinate under a group exemption ruling by consulting the official subordinate listing approved by the central organization or by contacting the central organization directly. You may use either method to verify that an organization is a subordinate under a group exemption ruling. This letter is to serve as official verification as outlined by the IRS that Passaic County Runners’ Club (dba PCRC) is a nonprofit organization under the RRCA’s group exemption (Group Exemption #2702) with the IRS. If you need further information to verify the status, please feel free to contact me. Sincerely,
Eve Mills Director of Membership and Program Services
