Fayth Panchuk of Vanscoy Wins Reserve Champion at Canadian Breakaway Roping Finals in Alberta

F

ayth Panchuk of Vanscoy has rodeod with her family since she was very young. Her favourite event has always been breakaway roping and she has had many accomplishments over the years. Fayth received a rodeo scholarship to Montana as one of the top ten. She then went to Vermilion on another scholarship by winning the Canadian college finals in breakaway roping and was season leader during the 2020 season with no finals due to the covid pandemic. She participated in the Canadian breakaway finals in Clairsholm, Alberta on October 3rd with the top 20 professional breakaway girls in Canada, who were roping to be the best in Canada. Fayth was the only girl to qualify from Saskatchewan. The competition was super tough and Fayth never missed a calf, roping ten in a row. She won two fast times and was reserve champion for Canada. She won a big check, custom made backpack, gift certificates and hats. Fayth has a lot of great things to say about the Canadian breakaway finals executive for putting on such a great Canadian finals Fayth is so proud of her horse Armoni and this was the first year that she competed on him after she broke him and trained him herself. Fayth said she couldn’t have had such a great finals if it wasn’t for her great horse. Breaking horses in one of Fayth’s hobbies, plus she and her sister Rybecca train breakaway and team roping horses and give roping lessons at the arena in Vanscoy.

Our Long (Inter)National Nightmare is Over... or is it ?

Vanscoy & District Agricultural Society Annual General Meeting

November 2020

Editorial

I

chose the title to this editorial by modifying a famous quote by an American president who said “Our long national nightmare is over”. You may think my reference could be to World War II for an appropriate Remembrance Day editorial, but it’s not. Maybe that I am addressing the recent COVID-19 pandemic, as science recently appears to be finding a way out as infections begin to soar, but not that either. Instead I am refering to the largest, most disruptive and dangerous force to shake mankind around the globe in the last half of a century... Donald J. Trump. The problem is not the political views of the right wing agenda that Republican Americans have always had in common with conservatives in almost every other democracy on the planet, but instead the exploitation of a segment of the world population through a steady barrage of mis-truths, personal attacks and global threats that have created chaos across the planet, plus giving life to the craziest of conspiracy theories which, just like a misplaced religious ideology, are a genie that is hard to put back in the bottle. World War II may have ended, put Nazi ideology will always be with us somewhere... Lest we Forget. Richard Nixon, drunk on power, thought that he could break the law to maintain that power until other, more honorable, people around him stepped in and he was forced to resign over the Watergate scandal. On August 9, 1974, his vice-president Gerald Ford was sworn in and gave his famous speech.... “Our Constitution works; our great Republic is a government of laws and not of men. Here the people rule..... As we bind up the internal wounds of Watergate, more painful and more poisonous than those of foreign wars, let us restore the golden rule to our political process, and let brotherly love purge our hearts of suspicion and of hate....” President-elect Joe Biden will likely give a similar speech about suspicion and hate at his inauguration in January 2021, but this time the national nightmare is an international one. In 2016 Trump said “I will respect the results of the election... IF I WIN !” Apparently he wasn’t kidding. I’m sure he didn’t think that he would win that 2016 election and he was likely thinking the same thing again in 2020, only this time he really, really, really did want to win. He had tasted power and he didn’t want to let it go. So how to do it without the votes ??

Maybe suppress the opposition votes ? Cast suspicion in advance with a “mail in ballot fraud” conspiracy should do it. Who wouldn’t believe that long debunked claim ? Surely his supporters, some of whom even host FOX news “opinion shows”, would support and spread this conspiracy theory. After all these are the same people that suggest American Democrat politicians conspired with the Chinese government to create and spread the COVID-19 virus into the United States so that they could then “create” mail-in voting which would somehow allow the Socialists, Black Lives Matter, Mexican Rapists, Big Tech, Muslims, Fake News, and any other enemy that Trump had pre-identified, to control the ballots in such a way that “The Donald” would be sure to lose. Really ? There are people who believe that ? Really ???

T

he Vanscoy & District Agricultural Society is holding its AGM on Wednesday, December 2nd at 6:30 in the Vanscoy Circle Hall. We would love to have new members join and participate in the elections of the President, Treasurer, and Directors. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people in the community and the Ag Society is a wonderful group of people to work with. If anyone is interested in helping out with volunteering at events, sponsorship, advertising and social media, or planning events please come to the AGM or contact us at vanscoyag@gmail.com or by calling (306) 493-3023. To ensure the safety of the community and our volunteers, we will be following social distancing guidelines at our AGM and all future meetings/events.

As President-elect Joe Biden would say... COME ON MAN !

Delisle Chiefs 2020/21 Schedule

But wait... maybe Trump has been telling the truth. Our Civic and Municipal elections just took place on November 9th... or did they ?? Saskatoon and Swift Current postponed their elections due to the weekend weather bomb that shut those communities down, while most other elections in province moved ahead in smaller communities that had less roads to struggle down to get to less polls. This may seem sensible to some people, BUT WAIT.... there was no past mechanism in place for the province to delay the elections due to weather !!!... “People are saying” that this another Democratic led Joe Biden election fraud... “I’ve heard that” the Chinese can control the weather and send down a blizzard... “And why did” these two communities pick Friday to hold these fake, illegal, re-do, elections ? OH MY GOD.... it’s Friday THE THIRTEENTH !! Wake Up People.... Can’t you see that dark, evil forces have taken over our election process and the deep state now wants to put mind control vaccine in us ??

Remembrance Day In Flanders fields the poppies blow... We all know this famous line, and the poem from which it stems. Lt. Col. John McCrae wrote this iconic poem while in the trenches at the Second Battle of Ypres. Amid the gas and the bloodshed bloomed poppies. How strange it must have been to see something so simple and beautiful while the horrors of war raged around. At Remembrance Day ceremonies around the country, we read In Flanders Fields. It serves to remind us that those who gave their lives were not simply folk heroes of the past but real, living people – with families and friends, dreams and ambitions. They were our brothers and sisters; our mothers and fathers; our children. Last year I had the privilege of joining Veterans Affairs Canada in Italy to commemorate the Italian Campaign of the Second World War. I was astonished by the gratitude of the Italian people all these years

later. At each stop of our tour, hundreds of Italians came to pay their respects. The legendary bravery of our soldiers who fought to defend the freedoms and rights of others lives on to this day. It is easy for us to forget that the peace and freedom we enjoy today comes at a price. The crimson red poppy serves as a reminder of their sacrifice, and marks their place - pinned close to our hearts. This Remembrance Day, thank a veteran, and please wear a poppy to support your local Legion. As Winston Churchill said, “Never was so much owed by so many to so few.” For those who returned wrapped in the Flag, for those who returned home with wounds both seen and unseen, and for those women and men in uniform who continue to stand on guard: we will take up the torch. We will keep the faith. Lest we forget.

Bhaskar Clinic Brings Equestrian Jumping to Higher Levels

Y

ou can never get enough of a good thing. This statement is true for riders attending a three day Equestrian Jumper clinic that was open to all affiliate club members of the Saskatchewan Horse Federation (SHF). The clinic was held Oct 10-13 at Pelmac Equestrian Stables in the Pike Lake area. Bhaskar Dasgupta FEI (Federation Equine International) competitor and show jumping coach, came from Ontario at the invitation of Diana Pella and Zoë MacDougall, owners/operators of Pelmac stables. Bhaskar was scouted as a talented young rider coached by Eric Lamaze, Olympic gold medalist, and Olympic team member/ trainer Chris Delia. Diana's son, Zoe's brother , Brennan MacDougall, first met Bhaskar in 2006 in Ontario when he was also coached by Chris Delia. A family friendship with Mr. Dasgupta has since benefitted many riders in this Province. Bhaskar continued to stay active on the FEI Grand Prix jumping circuit in 2019 and awaits a return to international competition when Covid-19 travel restrictions are lifted. This clinic was his fifth visit to Pelmac, which started in 2011. Many of the 16 riders and horses registered for the clinic were first time Bhaskar clinic participants. Riders came from Saskatoon, Rosthern and three from Prince Albert. The riders and horses were offered different challenges in separate classes, indoors and outdoors over the consecutive days, that ensured rider and horse safety and maximized each participants learning opportunity.

Bhaskar isn’t the only one who keeps coming back for more Saskatchewan hospitality amongst horse enthusiasts here. There were a few returning students eager to build on their learning experiences from his previous years clinics. An experienced jump equestrian, Merrick Faulkner and her horse Belle is one of Bhaskar's continuing students. She stated "I returned again this year because I was happy with his clinic last year. My goal this year was to improve my riding confidence and Belle's. I feel we both achieved that.” Colton Haevens signed up for the clinic with his young horse, Princess. He stated "My goal was to get better as a rider and to get the best out of my horse in terms of balance, collection and responsiveness. What Bhaskar helped me with, was, if I am balanced (seat equitation) my horse will be better balanced." Pelmac SFH Coach Zoë MacDougall was asked why Bhaskar is such a popular coach with a large following in Saskatchewan it is because "Riders comment on how personable Bhaskar is, and how he’s able to hit the right balance between having high expectations, and being kind and approachable for our less experienced riders. Everyone rode away satisfied at the end of each clinic day."

Advanced riders at Bhaskar clinic held in October 2020

Bhaskar Dasgupta is highly respected for his equestrian experience at the Grand Prix level. He instills confidence and encouragement to riders and horses of all abilities through his style of coaching. With the success of his recent clinic at Pelmac you can bet there will be riders coming back for many more!

COMMUNITY REPORTS

Operation Santa in Asquith Provides Christmas Hampers

A

squith’s Operation Santa is a Christmas Hamper program that was formed by a group of concerned citizens in Asquith who wanted to help needy people. The program is now starting year twenty-one.

Each year the community of Asquith and area is generous in their support, both monetary and in donated grocery items. Gifts for the children of the needy families have been donated in past years, as well as lovely hand-knitted toques and mittens for the children. Last year the program provided hampers and groceries to seventeen family units which included twenty-six children. Thanks to the generosity of the community, a small gift for each child was also provided with the hamper. The program is being run again this year with a goal to provide grocery and Christmas meal hampers, as well as small gifts for the children, to the families that are needy. Request forms are available at the Asquith Co-op, the Post Office, and the Town office. All recipients’ names are confidential; we protect each person’s dignity. Ap-

plicants are screened to ensure that help is directed where most needed. All requests for hampers MUST be turned in to the Asquith Town Office by December 4th, 2020. If you are wanting to donate a small gift for a child it must be turned in to the Town office prior to the December 4, 2020 deadline. We are appealing to our entire community to be a part of this year’s operation. We would like to thank you in advance for any help you are be able to provide, be it in the form of a food drive for donated grocery items or a cash donation. We do not give cash out to families or individuals, rather all cash donations are used to purchase appropriate hamper items locally. For more information regarding Operation Santa, please contact Kathy at 329-4341 or Gail at 329-4370.

Last year Co-op members and customers raised over $685,000 in a single day from more than 400 gas bars. Since 2017 the event has raised $2.4 million for more than 600 local organizations. This year the Delisle Ag Co-op raised $1,150 which was donated to the Delisle and District Fire Department.
