CHARITY NEWS At the beginning of this academic year, your daughters / wards voted for the new school charity. A unanimous decision was made by Cadogan House and Senior School to have SANE, a mental health charity to be the 2017-2018 charity. By 2030, DEPRESSION will be the world’s most disabling condition, above cancer, heart disease and AIDS. One in three of us will be affected by mental illness at some point in our lives. SANE strives to raise public awareness, stimulate research and bring more effective professional treatment and compassionate care to everyone affected by mental illness. SANE offers emotional support and information to all affected by mental health through their 130, rigorously trained volunteers. SANE also directly supports fundamental neuroscience research alongside studies into treatments and therapies. They share a Prince of Wales International Centre for SANE Research with the Oxford Mindfulness Centre, which provides Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy training, integrating brain research with meditation techniques. Caitlin and I are the Deputy Head Girls for this academic year and are hoping to raise £10,000 for this very worthwhile cause. As the Christmas holidays quickly approach, wrapping paper, ribbon and cards will be a much needed item in every household. If you would like to contribute to SANE you can do this through Northbrook Fundraising. Northbrook Fundraising is a company who are kindly giving 15% of each purchase to SANE. More information about Northbrook Fundraising can be found by following this link: http://www.northbrookfundraising.co.uk/about-us . A booklet showing Northbrook products will be coming home with your daughter shortly. In order to purchase essential Christmas items and support the school charity, please follow the link provided below: http://www.northbrookfundraising.co.uk/beneficiary/index/id/518/school/royal-masonic-school We thank you for your on-going support for Charities at RMS and look forward to hosting more events which all members of the RMS community can become involved in. SPORTS RESULTS Netball District Tournament Congratulations to the Senior A Team who won silver medals in the District Netball Tournament on Wednesday. The girls won all but one of their matches, some of the most notable performances were a 5-2 victory over Parmiters, 6 - 0 against Queens and 9-1 against Watford. The team’s performance was outstanding and they were very unlucky to miss out on 1st place. RMS vs St Helen’s Year 7 A Team won 13 - 8 Year 7 B Team lost 9 -13 The Year 7 teams travelled to St. Helen’s and enjoyed competitive but friendly matches and for some it was good to meet up with friends from their junior schools. The A Team played some excellent netball and kept ahead throughout the match due to some excellent shooting. The B team matched St. Helen’s in all but one quarter and sadly lost their first match this season.

Gymnastics The Under 9, Under 11 and Under 13 gymnastics teams competed in the ISGA 2 piece competition at Stamford School at the weekend. The teams did very well with the Under 9 team coming 4th, the Under 11 team coming 3rd out of 17 teams and the Under 13 team coming 5th. Isobel E came 7th individually in the Under 9 competition, Sowmiya came 4th individually in the Under 11 competition and Olivia R came 6th in the Under 13 competition. All teams qualified for the ISGA competition in March. Well done to all the girls!

Badminton RMS v Watford Year 9 Badminton League Watford won 6-3 RMS v Watford Mixed Year 10/11 Badminton friendly Watford won 4-2

SPORTS RESULTS Hockey RMS vs Tring Year 10 won 3-0 All the girls played really well as a team and were strong in attack. RMS vs Hitchin Girls Year 10 won 4-0 Well done to the Year 10 team who attacked and defended really well in this match. They communicated well with each other and supported each other when moving up the pitch towards the goal. Seniors V Hitchin girls- RMS won 9-0= an excellent standard of hockey was played with the ball staying in their 'D' for most of the match. Well done to the senior girls who scored a hat trick.

Cross Country RMS hosted the District Cross Country Championships this year and fielded teams in all the age groups to start the season. The course was a challenging 2.3km for Years 7 to 9 and 3.3km for Year 10 and Seniors. Over 17 schools entered teams in the various age groups and the girls ran superbly in some difficult conditions. Congratulations to Carys A for finishing in 2nd place in the Year 8 race and Caitlin J, who finished 1st in the Senior race and was therefore crowned District Champion. Special mention and congratulations must go to the Year 10 team who dominated their race. Jane W finished 1st and was crowned District Champion, Grace I was 2nd, Ella P finished 3rd and Steph R 4th. With the rest of the team consisting of Isabella F, Mia I and Georgina V all finishing in the top 20 it meant that the whole team won their age group with an amazing score and are now Year 10 Girls Team District Cross Country Champions for the year.
