SCHOOL NOTICES Mindfulness Course for Parents We didn't have enough take up for a Mindfulness for Parents programme this Term, but it may be that some of you might have a New Year's Resolution that is relevant and a course during the coming Hilary Term could be just what you want. I would again ask Gayle Creasey http:// gaylecreaseypsychotherapy.co.uk/ to run the programme over eight weeks and including a day retreat (evenings and day to be agreed). This would be a Mindfulness Foundation programme that is one and a half hours each evening and the amount of home practice suggested is more manageable than some approaches. The charge will be around ÂŁ225 including course materials. You will have heard me say before how helpful I believe Mindfulness can be, and current work in School with pupils from Years 5, 6 and 10 is very worthwhile. I believe many of you would benefit (as I did) from this basic course and, as I've said, this might be in line with a few resolutions for 2018. Please let me know if you are interested and/or if you'd like to know more. Rev'd John Quill School Chaplain jquill@royalmasonic.herts.sch.uk
Notice from Gillman and Soames School Photographers If you have not yet been able to order copies of the photographs taken of pupils earlier this term and would like to order photographs in time for Christmas, place orders as soon as possible. Gillman and Soames always receive large numbers of orders in December which they can then struggle to get out to parents in time for Christmas. If any parents have lost their child’s details, please would you contact the photographers directly at enquiries@gillmanandsoame.co.uk or on 01869 328200 . Thank you Mrs Young

SCHOOL NEWS Charity News Simon Redman, father to a student in Year 9, is undertaking a huge challenge and will be raising money to support this year's elected school charity SANE. A message from him below: “Some people are aware that I have been going through a mid-life crisis for some time now. The first signs were when I ran across the Sahara desert four and a half years ago. Unfortunately, the last jaunt did not seem to do the trick and on Saturday I am flying to Peru on in order to compete in the first South American Marathon des Sables (MdS). The MdS has been called the “toughest foot race on earth” by the discovery channel and is an unsupported (carrying all food and equipment) race of 250km over six days across the Ica desert in Peru. Whilst I am doing this for my own satisfaction, I have also decided to support a charitable cause. My daughter, Kitty, is a member of the RMS Charity Committee and so I am supporting their chosen charity called SANE in support of mental health. I know that people receive many requests, but if you would to provide some support the link to my JustGiving page is here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/simon-redman6

SCHOOL NEWS Discover Scuba Diving Sessions On Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th November 76 girls participated in their Padi Discover Scuba Diving session. The girls watched a video, learnt some of the sign language needed underwater, and were introduced to the scuba diving equipment. This was heavier than expected, but luckily we are all weightless underwater! Now for the fun bit! With much excitement and some nerves all girls got into the pool ready to try scuba diving, and most importantly breathing underwater! After ensuring all their kit was on correctly, the girls disappeared underwater to practice some key skills. They should all now be able to clear their masks, find their regulators, and communicate underwater. Following the completion of these skills girls were taken down to the deep end to enjoy swimming around, have their photos taken, play with a dolphin and orca, and even do a handstand and roly-poly! I think we can all agree that these sessions were a lot of fun and a great introduction to scuba diving and I look forward to seeing more of you take your first steps into this exciting world on the 2nd December. Thanks must go to Xambor Watersports for the opportunity to allow us to explore this amazing sport. I hope to see more of you again soon, whether it means joining the new scuba diving club, working towards your open water certification, or even joining us diving somewhere in the world soon!

Netball RMS vs Bushey Meads (District Netball League) Year 8 A Team won 16-3 Yesterday the A team played a netball match against Bushey Meads, it was a very successful match. We won 16-3 which we were all very proud about. We tried our hardest despite making a few mistakes. We worked well as a team but we all have something to improve on. Every game we find something new to improve on but find a new thing that went well. Livvy R 8S Year 9 A Team won 36-8 The 9 A's faced Bushey Meads in their district Netball league. The girls took an early lead and at halftime were leading by 15 goals.
