SCHOOL INFORMATION More about Mindfulness If you would like to partake please express your interest promptly Thanks to those of you who have already expressed an interest in the Mindfulness course here at school. Places are filling up fast so please get in touch promptly if you would like to join the course. I have been asked why the course goes on for eight weeks and costs a not inconsiderable amount of money; could there not be a “Mindfulness Lite” course available one afternoon. My response is that I can certainly put on something one afternoon/evening, and maybe I will next term when I can also talk about the training I'll have done over the summer to teach Mindfulness to the girls. But the limitation is that in that time all I can do is talk about Mindfulness and offer a few ideas about possible practice that people can try. However, to have any chance of learning Mindfulness itself and incorporating it into one's life takes time; so on offer is (a tried and tested) eight weeks with a trained trainer plus the practice that is taught during that eight weeks. Mindfulness is about retraining the mind, and the research that is emerging is clear that such retraining is very worthwhile – however it takes time and practice for it to be effective, especially for adults who are very used to the way our minds have learnt to work! As I wrote last week I have invited Gayle Creasy to run the programme here; I attended Gayle’s training last year and I recommend the training and Gayle as the trainer from this personal experience. She will run the programme on Thursday evenings plus a weekend day and the fee is £260. Please contact me at jquill@royalmasonic.herts.sch.uk to express an interest or to ask any further questions. SCHOOL NEWS Visit from RMS Old Girl This Wednesday it was fantastic to hear from old girl Meghann Whattam. Meghann left school in 2015 and has since built an actual working racing car as part of her Mechanical Engineering degree at Oxford Brookes University. She spoke about the lengthy and complex process of her project that led up to her competing in formula one racing events across Europe. It was amazing to see what can be achieved after one year at university and some of us were even lucky enough to have a sit in her racing car.. ‌.including Mrs Freeman and Mrs Rose! It was evident Meghann has loved every minute of her project and her huge achievement has certainly inspired Sixth Form students to grab every opportunity when we head off to university.
