To Prospective Sixth Form Students
S
ixth Form is an exciting opportunity that not only expands your academic potential but also ensures that you are prepared for your future after school. Despite its challenges, Sixth Form study is extremely rewarding and provides plenty of opportunity for self-development as you progress. A key benefit to Sixth Form study is the ability to focus on the subjects that most interest you. Sixth Form lessons include far more discussion meaning that it’s important for you to choose subjects that you find engaging. The majority of students drop down to three subjects at some point in Year 12. This option gives you additional flexibility, allowing you to effectively try out your subjects at the start of the year. This is a particularly useful opportunity for students considering subjects that are not generally taught below Sixth Form, such as, Psychology. There is a plethora of support available to you throughout the process, from teacher advice to hearing the experiences of other students. This advice should not be the sole factor in your decision making but it can help to narrow down your options. The RMS Sixth Form is not all about academic work, there are extensive opportunities to get involved in extra-curricular activities. Volunteering in the Junior School and Pre-School is extremely popular in Year 12 and students find it very rewarding to actively make a difference in their community. Clubs range from Sport to Music and often involve year groups from across the Senior School, meaning that they are valuable for meeting new people.

Hind House is unique in that it unites two year groups whilst continually encouraging increased student independence in preparation for your future after school. Years 12 and 13 are integrated within mentoring groups and the Common Room. This means that both year groups are able to benefit from one another. Perhaps the greatest benefit for the Year 12s is that they are able to witness the UCAS and apprenticeship application processes long before they will apply themselves. Whilst there is arguably a greater unity between students in the Sixth Form, the teachers begin to introduce a much greater level of independence and personal responsibility. Similarly to University teaching methods, you will be expected to use your time effectively, ensuring you do homework and revision outside of lesson time. This independence may seem overwhelming to begin with, however, you still have a fabulous support network to help you get used to it. The form Tutors, Mrs Freeman and Miss Simmonite are available to help with any issues you may have. Wishing you all the best for the coming year and the Sixth Form look forward to welcoming you to Hind House in September Francesca Wolff
