Participation in the Commencement Ceremony does not indicate degree completion. Upon degree completion, the Registrar’s Office will post the degree on the academic transcript and graduates will receive an official RMU diploma.
Significance of the Hood
The hooding portion of the Commencement Ceremony dates back to the 12th and 13th centuries and signifies special recognition of master’s and doctoral degree candidates. Faculty members place the hood over the heads of the graduates, recognizing their success in completing the program and symbolically welcoming them as fellow scholars. The hood identifies the owner’s academic institution, degree, and field of study through the length and the colors of the lining and binding. Each graduate’s field of study is designated by its corresponding color as listed below.

Military Veterans
Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions would like to recognize our graduates who are veterans. As members of the military, these students have demonstrated their commitment to the RMU core values of collaboration, authenticity, trustworthiness, inclusiveness, and service, especially that of selfless service. In addition to what these graduates will do as health professionals, they have already given service to our nation, our state, and our community. Military veterans received a commemorative red, white, and blue cord to be worn at this commencement ceremony, signifying the University’s gratitude for their service and sacrifice.
Dr. Mark A. Campbell is an alumnus of Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. He works with individuals and organizations to enhance performance in all areas of life. He encourages anyone he meets to push their performances to maximum personal and team potential, whether in the office, on stage, on a playing field, or in daily life.
Dr. Campbell served the military in a myriad of ways,
working as a lead for the US Army’s performance psychology and resilience program, a wellness/performance consultant to the US Army, the Director of Mental Training for the Army Adaptive Recondition Program, and a lead planner for events such as the Warrior Games and Prince Harry’s Invictus Games. Mark also worked with military and government leads from 14 Allied nations to develop performance and wellness-based programs for their wounded warrior populations.
Dr. Campbell spent five years as the Director of Mental Conditioning for the 2019 World Series Champion Washington Nationals Baseball Club. He focused on holistically enhancing mental and emotional performances on and off the field while serving as a Professional Baseball Performance Psychology Group (PBPPG) member.
His educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in English & Communications from Florida State University, a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science/Sports Medicine from the University of West Florida, a Master of Science in Sport and Exercise Psychology from the University of Tennessee, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Health Sciences in Health Promotion and Wellness from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. He is a Certified Wellness Practitioner (CWP) and Certified Workplace Wellness Specialist (CWWS) through the National Wellness Institute.
Dr. Campbell is also the Founder/President of Nature of Wellness, a company focused on helping individuals and organizations embrace the natural world as a primary source of health and well-being, and hosts the Nature of Wellness podcast. Additionally, Mark is a Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) and an Adjunct Professor for Health and Wellness courses at Rocky Mountain University.
Dr. Ellen Hudgins joined RMU in 2014 and instructs courses for the post-professional Doctor of Occupational Therapy (pOTD) program in leadership, practice management & administration, healthcare advocacy, and health and wellness. She is the Concentration Track Director for the Leadership and Advanced Practice tracks.
In addition to teaching, Hudgins is president and owner of three Central Virginia clinics that provide occupational,
physical, and speech therapy services. Dr. Hudgins has more than 30 years of experience as an occupational therapist and is an alumna of RMU’s pOTD program in 2014.
One of her nominations stated, “Dr. Hudgins is student-centered, consistently responsive to students, and validates student ideas, thus creating space for varying perspectives while maintaining rigorous standards for learning that help students grow and remain open to new or different viewpoints.”
Hudgins has shown an admirable ability to balance student needs objectively with educational and professional standards.
Kimberlee Shibinski EdD Adjunct Faculty Teaching Award RecipientDr. Kimberlee Shibinski has been with RMU since 2013 and instructs courses for the Healthcare Professions Education (HPE) Certificate, Master of Science in Health Science (MSHS), and Doctor of Philosophy in Health Sciences (PhD) programs. She has more than 30 years of experience as a college-level educator, focusing on learning theories, classroom management, and effective coaching/teaching strategies.
A student nominator stated, “Dr. Shibinski’s love for students extends beyond the virtual classroom. I witnessed this when she attended my dissertation defense in person and honored my family and me with her presence at our dinner celebration. Dr. Shibinski made an intentional effort to connect with all of my children and my husband. My children still talk about that night and how much fun they had with ‘Dr. Kim.’ This connection and intentionality make Dr. Shibinski an excellent teacher and mentor. She truly goes above and beyond the role of adjunct teacher.”
Rising Star Teaching Award Recipient
Dr. Kelsey Hopkinson has been with RMU since 2020 and is an assistant professor in the entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, where she instructs in courses relating to cardiovascular and pulmonary PT, ethics and physical therapy practice, and professionalism in patient management.
Dr. Hopkinson graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science in Human Movement Science and is
an alumna of RMU, where she earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2017.
Dr. Hopkinson has contributed to the growth and development of the Physical Therapy Department through her work on the Inter-Professional Education (IPE) committee and in the Parkinson’s Wellness Program. She is board certified in Geriatrics and completed the HPE Teaching Certificate to advance her knowledge about current and best practices in higher education. She consistently demonstrates her desire to continue growing and learning as an educator.
A faculty nominator stated, “Dr. Hopkinson offers students the opportunity to spend the day with her as a clinician in a skilled nursing facility and an acute care hospital. This wonderful opportunity allows students to see the setting and receive mentorship on all aspects of being a PT, from chart review to patient management to documentation. This experience helps students feel more comfortable before they leave for their clinical rotations.”
