RNZYS International Sailing Fund

Working hard to ensure we remain at the pinnacle of the sport, representing New Zealand on the world stage.

Our International Sailing Fund (ISF) was established in 1980. Since then, funds raised through our Corporate Regattas have helped more than 250 crews in all types of boats on the world stage, from Olympic Classes – the Extreme Sailing Series and Men’s and Women’s International Match Racing – to Offshore races like the Fastnet, 6 metre worlds, and fleet racing regattas.

With COVID-19 impacting international regattas over the past 2 years, our youth sailors need funding more than ever to keep them in the sport. Last year we were able to send our CBRE club champion team to the Seawanhaka International Challenge Cup in the United States, and our Performance Program team to Youth Foiling Gold Cup and the World Match Racing Tour. This year we hope to extend their opportunities to the 2023 Youth Match Racing World Championships in Australia and the New York Invitational Regatta. The International Sailing Fund will also help our club sailors get to, and excel at, local events in New Zealand, as well as enhance our club racing events at the RNZYS.

RNZYS Tree Planting and Bush Restoration Project on Kawau Island

Leaving a legacy for future club members is at the heart of our Tree Planting and Bush Restoration Project on Kawau Island.

Kawau Island is the jewel of the Hauraki Gulf. Many precious memories and sailing experiences have been created by RNZYS members under this unique and stunning backdrop.

Unfortunately, the native trees have been desolated due to pests invading the area and troublesome pine trees have taken over the club’s land, making it impossible for native birds, including kiwi, to nest in the area. RNZYS is working with the Department of Conservation, Auckland Council, and local Iwi, on a restoration programme that will see more than 8,000 trees planted over the next five years. The trees will range from large specimens to small undercover plants, restoring the bush and native birdlife. Funds raised will go towards purchasing saplings, tree planting, pest eradication and ongoing maintenance.

Entry & Registration

Registration entry is via the Eastern (far) entrance of the Squadron at 1pm – upon arrival you will be directed to the meeting area for your boat – for drinks and nibbles plus the briefing, in the Squadron’s Ballroom. Evening guests from 5pm: Entry is via the eastern entrance.

Parking

We encourage you to catch taxis to the event where possible. If you bring your own vehicle please park within the white lines and register your car at reception.

Dress Code

Smart casual throughout the event, it’s all about having fun. What do I wear sailing: It’s always best to wear layers as the weather may change at any time, include a rain jacket, sunscreen and soft non-marking soled shoes (please no high heels). Caps and sunglasses are optional. Lifejackets will be provided and must be worn at all times while racing.

Belongings

Do I need to know how to sail

We have a dedicated coat check room in the main reception area with a Concierge. You can be as involved in sailing the boat as much or as little as you want to be or just sit back and enjoy the sail on the gorgeous Auckland harbour. Please remember that your skipper and crew have generously donated their time and yacht in support of this event so we ask that you please be respectful and courteous whilst onboard.

Evening Event

Fun! It will be a vibrant party atmosphere with the Corporate Regatta prizegiving, live music, live auction and premium food tasting stations with beverages to match. The idea is to mix and mingle, have a dance and participate in the fundraising for two great causes - buy a raffle ticket or three and bid on the silent and live auction items!

Its time again for the RNZYS Corporate Regatta and Auction. This is a popular event to deliver a great experience for you and your guests on and off the water.

The day is about participation and enjoyment and raising funds to go towards the RNZYS International Sailing Fund to help our young sailors and Club Members participate on the international stage and fund our Tree Planting Project on Kawau Island.

On the water you will get to experience sailing on a variety of Members’ yachts, who are hosting you in support of the above cause. Following the sailing you can share your day’s experiences with an amazing array of food and beverage from the team at the RNZYS, with a live band and bid on the live and silent auction items. This is a great opportunity to network with many of your corporate businessmen and women, who are all here to support the cause.
